CARDINAL PELL – LOOKING BACK.

PELL

GEORGE PELL HAS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE CONTROVERSIAL.

The decision to have him lie in state in the Cathedral in Sydney, have a Mass attended by thousands, and then buried in the Cathedral crypt on February 2nd seems to me to be unnecessarily insensitive to victims of clerical sexual abuse.

George Pell was not found INNOCENT by the Australian High Court.

His conviction was found to be UNSAFE.

Total innocence and an unsafe conviction are two very different things.

Pell admitted himself that he had failed victims as a bishop and archbishop.

But right-wing Catholics all over the world now want Pell to be regarded as a Saint and white martyr.

The truth is that Pell was a typical RC bishop – arrogant, self willed, in denial of truth, and probably absolutely cynical.

I think that, like Keith O’Brien, Pell should have had a private funeral and burial.

Now, Pell is being used by right-wing RC clerics and laity as a SAINT of the right – to promote the Latin Mass, to oppose the Francis Papacy, and to attack the Synodal Path and bring us all back to the 16th century.

I think it’s deeply worrying that a man who was accused of paedophilia and not found innocent by a jury of his peers should be hailed like this – especially when he covered up abuse.

It’s a perfect example of the craziness of the vicious war between the Catholic right and left.

GEORGEOUS GEORGE TO BE EVICTED

GEORGE AND FRANCIS

Pope Francis has told Benedict’s companion to move out of where he lived with Benedict by February 1st.

Some think that Francis is being very harsh.

I’m sure George is in mourning for Benedict. Maybe he should have been given a little more time?

But he is occupying a whole monastery on his own.

Maybe George should be given a sabbatical?

But he joined the priesthood to be a pastor.

After a break, perhaps it’s time he became a pastor and back in his native Germany?

The Archdiocese of Paderborn is vacant.

The majority of bishops were disloyal to JPII and Benedict and were praised for it. Enough with the papalatory.

No Surprise Patsy you saying Cardinal Pell was not innocent but he was not found guilty either. The allegations made against him were in not safe either. Thanks be to God there was at least one prelate standing up against the left -wing dictator pope and his synodal path which will only lead to perdition. I look forward to Archbishop Ganswein’s book being published we will find out more about this dreadful papacy than they will like. You got it right about Fanny being harsh, no change there. We don’t have to go back to the VIth Century, in the XXth century we had The Wonderful Tridentine Mass for most of that time, and despite the haters we still do. I always wonder at how terrified of The Mass all you liberal lefty’s are, and so you be should be.

Typical rubbish, and lies, from the blog’s arch-conservative, tyranny-loving idiot.

Pell WAS found guilty, unanimously, by a jury in Victoria State; the verdict was upheld by the appeals court there. It was only the High Court in Victoria that ruled Pell’s conviction unsafe; it did NOT declare Pell innocent, because it had not the authority to do so.

The worldly funeral and honour the Catholic Church in Australia is proposing for Pell’s remains insults the victims of rape, and it’s cover-up, by Catholic clergy. It is sending out a distinct message to the world: we stand by, and eulogise, men like Pell. Fuck the victims of Catholic priests!

It’s wonderful, in a way, that the Roman Catholic institutional church continues to self-harm, so publicly, and to render itself increasingly contemptible, and irrelevant, to most lay Catholics.

No, typical rubbish and lies from one of the blogs Arch-liberal gobshites who think they know better than anyone else.
The so-called victims who made the allegations had no proof or corroberation that’s why the conviction was deemed unsafe.
However that does not matter to you and your cohorts who will believe any allegation made against a cleric and you don’t give a fuck wither it’s true or not.
Your hatred of The Church and The Sacred Priesthood will be your downfall. The Gates of Hell shall not prevail.

You really do live up to the ‘idiot’ tag, don’t you?
What ‘corroboration’ does Jesus offer you not only for his existence, but for his claim to be the son of God? Absolutely none. And, yet, you take his word, alone, as gospel truth.😅
Corroboration, you utter fool, is not always necessary for belief in a person’s word, if it is credible. The Victoria State jury that unanimously convicted Pell obviously found completely credible the word of Pell’s accuser.
Pell was safely convicted, and justly incarcerated.
Pell was a homosexual paedophile/ephebophile, and you, by defending him, are declaring yourself not in the least troubled by the rape of children, provided they have the privilege of being assualted by a Catholic priest. You are as evil and vile as the lying scum you defend.

Hey, 11.43! I know you are not the brightest, so I’ll take this slowly. Ready? If people are truly innocent on the way to court, then they remain innocent on the way down to the holding cells, even if a court convicts them; it’s called a miscarraige of justice.
What you should have said was ‘people are PRESUMED innocent…’. ‘Presumed innocent’ does not mean ‘actually innocent’.

I don’t agree with your assessment of Cardinal Pell. He is deserving of a funeral mass and burial back in Australia. Yes, the event may well cause upset to survivors but Cardinal Pell is deserving of this tribute. He certainly woukd never consider him to be a saint and I’m certain that he sought God’s mercy frequently. He has s strong, robust personality, which is not the same as being arrogant. He was unequivocal about chyrch teachings and expressed then cogently and persuasively. I see no evidence if him being used by right wing Catholics for their causes. That’s a fictional exaggeration. God will be merciful and just to him. Pat, I guessed you’d want him dropped from the cargo hold of a plane en route to Melbourne, deep into a swamp., such is your disdain for Cardinal Pell. Shame shame, shame, on him who was so learned in Catholic teaching and doctrine, that he did not practice Roman Catholic church teaching.
No! It obviously did not apply to him.
I think it’s outrageous that he will be lying in state, and have a requiem Mass and. burial in St. Mary’s Cathedral Sydney, hopefully there will be a show of distaste for such and, a physical presents showing the people of Sydney’s contempt for Pell, even in death.

The one positive from this show of support for Pell by, the Roman Catholic church hierarchy, exhibits their lack of understanding ANYTHING about child sexual abuse, it’s victims and its aftermath, both by the Vatican, and in Sydney, they may be blinded by their arrogance, but, we are not. this show for Pell will be a further “nail in the coffin” for Roman Catholic institution,

Even after the investigation into Pell’s abysmal lack of reaction to child sex abuse in Australia, and it’s findings clearly documented by Royal Commission into institutional responses into child sex abuse,which Pell took part recorded in and it’s report;
Case Study no.28, Catholic church authorities in Ballarat.

Without even mentioning Pell’s child sex abuse charges over allegations that he sexually molested two choirboys while he was Roman Catholic archbishop of Melbourne, his time in Ballarat alone should be enough to quietly bury him.

in death Francis has to now to live with Pell’s vitriol, contained in the letter from “Demos”, regarding Francis papacy, it serves him right to be stabbed in the back for the accolades he spouted for his Judas.

Good riddance to Pell and, his ilk.

The Australian Supreme Court issued a rare unanimous verdict in favour of quashing the allegations, all seven Supreme Court judges ruling for the same reasons that the Cardinal should be regarded as innocent.
He did not, as some have had it ‘get off on a technicality’. On the contrary, the charges were quashed because they simply did not meet the basic legal test of withstanding reasonable doubt.

1. His conviction was literally quashed on the grounds that the claims against him were without merit, substance and fact. The allegations could not have happened the way in which they were alleged and one of the two accusers later admitted having never been abused. Multiple witnesses testified to the appeal court in favour of Pell’s account of events.
2. Unlike Pell, O’Brien had admitted the multiple allegations against him spanning decades. He was long deposed, in effect, to the laity when he died. This isn’t true of Pell.
3. Even Francis was so convinced of Pell’s innocence he brought him back to Rome in advisory matters.

This seems a bit premature and even a bit vindictive. If it is true. You would have thought that Georg and the the domestic community there who have looked after Benedict should be allowed some time to breath and grieve ? Even Social Services wouldn’t be kicking people out of a house so quickly after the death of the leaseholder. As to what Georg should do next, well, just dumping him on a diocese when he hasn’t really been anywhere else or had any other experience than the rarified atmosphere of the Vatican for decades, seems a little unfair to the diocese. I think he is in to his late 60s now, and I believe that he has some health problems with his kidneys, so why should he not retire somewhere and live quietly and prayerfully, and just relax ? He doesn’t need to be elevated, he doesn’t need to be pushed around. Mind you, he also doesn’t need to publish a book that settles old scores, like Harry. If he is going to do he needs to quietly and gracefully.

Pell should be laid to rest quietly with the minimum of fuss and ceremony. Yes, his conviction was quashed and his supporters think that the suffering he endured should be publicised by a grand funeral to emphasis what a great man and martyr he was. On the other side, there will be plenty of people who were hurt when his conviction was crushed, because they believed that he was guilty, and for them such a public display of mourning for Pell will be hurtful. For both, I believe, a quiet, dignified, minimum pomp and ceremony funeral would be best. I’m surprised that Pell didn’t stipulate this himself, but then considering what a culture wars warrior, in your face, argumentative, unbending, arrogant, over confident person, who enjoyed confrontation, he was in life then I guess there is no surprise that he is like that in death. It’s very sad and disappointing. Maybe a good stint in Purgatory will humble him a little bit if prison didn’t.

Perhaps the wisest, best-balanced comment here today.
I am flabbergasted, given the white heat of controversy surrounding Cardinal Pell, that someone actually decided, free of duress, that the cardinal should have a public, and very high profile, wake, Requiem, and funeral. Are they intentionally turning a controversy into a crisis, the Catholic Church ? Because this is what will happen, given the incendiary public feeling about Cardinal Pell. It’s almost as if the Catholic Church is, masochistically, self-seeking further hostility and condemnation.
Anyone would think it had a martyr complex.

GP could have been state of the art if in 1996, on acceding to all the church power anyone needs – that of metropolitan – he had told his assembled auxiliaries and most suffragans that he was shopping Little (predecessor) and Mulkearns (suffragan), on the basis of the inside knowledge from which he had been kept out of the loop.
This would have forestalled his strange subsequent career in finance – which the big man’s “rival” gangs collude to not reform – and the deliberately badly presented recent case (irrespective of its possible merits).
Perhaps he had been thought qualified to “support” the clergy as auxiliary in the first place, but he could have resigned relatively quietly early on if he thought the status wasn’t worth the further effort.
