That said priest (Father Rory Coyle) has been in London as of late (all expenses paid) completing a doctorate titled:
“Towards a Framework of Creating Coping Strategies for Newly Ordained Roman Catholic Priests Engaged with Major Transitions in Their Lives”
Again, this has been paid by the parishioners and people of the church in the Archdiocese of Armagh. Father Rory completed this at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David whilst resident at St Luke’s Institute in the United States of America and the Irish centre in London. Again, all paid by for parishioners.

Now to the real story! Father Rory has recently returned to Ireland since living, what can only be described as ‘an interesting life’ whilst away from priesthood.
Father Rory celebrated mass three days ago? Pictures attached. I understand he’s currently staying in Mellifont Parish with Father Sean Dooley.
You ask why does this all matter though? Right? Well here is why! On the one hand up until three days ago, this Grindr priest which was put on leave in 2016 to study a PhD In transitioning and attend therapy at Saint Luke’s institute celebrated mass.

We all supposed that after his FALL, Rory had gone away to repent, pray, get therapy and treatment, do volunteering work and study.
Most sabbaticals are 6 to 12 months.
Rory has had SEVEN YEARS or 84 months.
The good people of ARMAGH have paid Rory his £24,000 salary a year for seven years – a total of £ 168,000.
They also paid for St Luke’s in the USA – costing at least £ 30,000.
They have also paid 7 years rent to the Servites in London.
They have also paid for his D.Min from a Welsh university.
And what has Rory been doing –
– Having a great time on the London Gay Scene, thanks to the CLAPHAM FEELERS and Instagram.
PERSONAL DISAPPOINTMENT
I am personally disappointed because, unknown to anyone, I have been in touch with Rory, helping him all I could and referring him to others for support.
He always approached me seeking sympathy, advice, prayers, and seeking little or no mention on this blog.
My personal and journalistic integrity would not allow me to concede silence to Rory, but I did help all I could and fretted over things I published.
And, now that I see Rory was pulling the wool over all our eyes – including the eyes of Eamon Martin.
I think that Rory has used everyone for his own ends.
I think he will continue to do that.
But he will eventually run out of road.
Rory is totally unsuitable to the priesthood and perhaps even to any job that involves dealing with vulnerable people.
Is Eamon Martin going to continue with this charade?

Well, St Lukes – a rehab centre for clergy with sex and alcohol addictions, didn’t work. Can the archdiocese get a refund? But then these places will never work and have as much chance of succeeding as gay conversion therapy.

I’m not sure those places try to do gay conversion. I think what they do is teach clergy to live a double and parallel life, and how to integrate both sides of their lives – gay and priestly – so that they are able to carry on regardless. Most clergy do that. Compromise. Integrate, so called. Learn to be experts at disinformation, fooling people and lying. That’s what you get for your money there.

When employed in a lay role I found that some clerics are sadly not respectful or complimentary of those who do a lot behind the scenes and who volunteer their time to keep things going. It was disturbing really and I felt very disappointed for those volunteers who still have no idea what some of the clerics say and gossip about them. I was relieved to find a new job and to get away from it all.

Fr Coyle is not hiding what he’s into – nothing wrong with it if he left the Roman church or was excommunicated as they say they don’t do marriage or gay in that religion rules and they certainly are extremely tough and mean with all the thousands of vulnerable victims who are weary of fighting for justice for decades many to no avail & die waiting. This is all so very wrong on every level. I cannot understand why Rory wants to remain being a priest. He’s a good looking, intelligent man. He probably will specialise working with confused seminarians, priests and religious. Tony Rice is a perfect role model who I greatly admire. He was a Redemptorist priest and trained in psychotherapy and left his congregation. He is now chairperson of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, an expert in the field with a long waiting list. He is a good looking man and embraced the ideal that life begins after forty.

Someone asked Pat if he would have him as a priest of the Oratory. This puzzles me – it would suggest that those who attend the oratory or minister in the oratory would countenance such behaviours as Rory’s .
I understand that Oratory priests are not required to be straight nor celibate, but surely though, they must be required to be chaste and exhibit moral standards and some integrity above the level of integrity Rory would appear to display. The double standards and two fingers up attitude beggar belief.
One would have imagined that he would want to be keeping his head down.
I know Ireland has a reputation for being a bit backward but does Rory imagine his online antics wouldn’t be making it back to Ireland.
It’s also interesting that one or a couple of individuals appear intent in monitoring Rory’s activities closely. Hell hath no fury like a lover scorned, eh Rory.

Paul Kennedy a former Terenure College student who waived his right to anonymity has repeated his call for a personal apology from the Carmelite Order.
Mr Kennedy told RTE Radio’s Today with Claire Byrne show that individual priests were not allowed to apologise because that would be an admission of guilt and their moral compasses are now set by accountants and lawyers.
He described comments from others who knew and did nothing as very hurtful. Adults walked into the room when McClean was abusing children and walked out, people in other schools knew. Mr Kennedy finds comments such as “if only we had known” very hurtful and disingenuous.

Lots of anger and recrimination on here today, which I won’t add to as I am an atheist and chiefly concerned with the waste of taxpayer’s money on the manky RCC.
It looks like Rory has been living his best life in London and having a blast, literally and metaphorically. He looks joyously happy and having a great time with his tribe. It is slightly irritating but at least it’s like Nordie money that has paid for it rather than Irish Free State so what harm, the North is bankrupt anyway and another 150,000k is a drop in the ocean.
In many ways I feel very sorry for him. One minute he’s partying with Clapham Feelers and attending gay pride, next thing he’s saying mass to a load of codgers in Darkest Louth. Hope it all works out for him and he leaves the RCC. He will thrive away from the church. He needs to return to London himself and spread his wings, will be the making of him.

Armagh is beginning to look rather sordid. It goes to show that the wrong class were admitted to holy orders. In the past it was solididly middle/upper class. Since the social changes post wwII it has been mainly the lower classes who have been ordained, who are generally more used to abusive relationships and generally more tolerant of them.

I was at my son’s new school mass day earlier and couldn’t help but notice that teaching is fast becoming a females only occupation. I hope that those who campaign for women priests realise that the priesthood will also become a female dominated occupation if they start ordaining women. A male priest will be as rare as a male altar server.

Having children is over rated. As a woman in my 50’s I feel very judged for choosing not to have any, the emphasis on women is atrocious. I am often asked, “awww do you regret not having any children?”, no I bloody don’t, do you people regret having children?

Imagine instead a blog celebrating those same priests marrying those same parishioners – simply because the rules of the church recognised that the vocation to marriage and calling to priesthood can actually coincide within people raised as RC as well as coinciding in converts to the RC faith

Rory had a great life in London that he could never have afforded as a layman: free accommodation in Fulham, a disposable income of £2k a month, tuition fees paid, and a sideline as a £100 an hour counsellor. He was well able to afford a vibrant pink £ social life with his gay friends. It was a very agreeable 7-year holiday and he was “having it all”.

Context please. Fr Coyle sent a dick pic to an adult male on Grindr, which I understand is not uncommon, and did not know it was a former pupil of a school where he had been chaplain. You seem to imply he did this publicly and knew who the recipient of his message was. It was foolish, deplorable but don’t turn it into something it was not.

most clergy are hypocrites, they knowingly take a vow of celibacy and then that are proved to be either shagging men in saunas or sticking their bum through the sauna curtain to have unprotected sex with faceless passing strangers. Others are Marriage wreckers targetting unhappy or vulnerable parishioners they invite for counselling or become privy to the troubles of parishioners in confession & go on to share private & personal details with their self entitled staff & volunteers for the purposes of nasty mockery & abusive harrassment. There should be no church involvement in counselling, hospitals or schools etc., where they abuse their roles to identify & source new victims.

It looks like Rawhide Barebacker Purcell is going back in to the clerical / monastic womb. Safer there, no doubt. And more comfortable. However, we know that it will only be a matter of time before he is heading off to the Boiler House Sauna (entrance fee 24 Euro; disposable douche 5 Euro) and is up to his old antics in the shadows. The Archbishop of Armagh needs to have a stop position on this. He needs to give Rory a definite date for when the MIA status is ended, one way or the other, as Pat suggests in today’s blog. A lay diocesan pastoral worker caught in similar circumstances to Rory’s would have been sacked quickly or they would have resigned. Is Rory going to be allowed to drift on for years? Armagh has been extremely generous to him, but this farce must come to an end. I’m sure that the Servites never thought that this would go on so long, or that they would end up with a self-employed lodger who is a layman in all but name.

The students ordained were: Rory Coyle from Armagh; Anthony O’Mahony from Cork & Ross; Kevin Duddy and Peter O’Kane from Derry; Patrick Hughes, from Kildare & Leighlin; Christopher O’Donnell from Limerick; Patrick Donnelly from Meath and Mile Vidic from Mostar.

In 2001, there were 22 in the Maynooth ordination class. How many of them are still in ministry? I can identify at least three who have left but the departure figure is probably a good bit higher. What is going so badly wrong with the selection and training of our seminarians?

Pat whether you publish this or not is entirely your decision. I am a PP in a parish outside Armagh, for almost 10 years, and a priest for almost 30 years. I am disgusted, and can speak for a significant number of my own, in the poor handling by Eamon Martin of a number of the younger priests in the diocese.
My (and numerous other’s) main concerns are Fr Rory Coyle, Fr Ryan McAleer and Fr Stephen Wilson. Fr Rory Coyle – If what you are saying is accurate, and I don’t doubt you, Rory Coyle has picked up where he left off. Was there not a canonical investigation into him? Perhaps I have said too much already.
Fr Ryan McAleer – there was certainly a canonical investigation into this man’s behaviour. I am at a loss as to how he carried on with his immature and sordid activities for so long. I thought the people of Dungannon were able to spot this sooner. It is a relatively well educated and affluent parish afterall. I am not sure whether you know, but when Fr Ryan McAleer was asked to provide an account of his behaviour during the investigation, he declined to attend. His years as Advisor for Primary Education reflected a lazy attitude on his behalf. His work was done, but he was lackluster at best. I think he is a very unstable and unhappy man, who has issues. We should pray for him. Ryan McAleer is still in ministry, as recently as November last year at home in Tyrone. Certainly his use of a gay dating site where he exposed himself deems him unfit in many’s eyes.
Fr Stephen Wilson – From the moment I heard of the upcoming ordination last year, I boiced my concern to brother priests. Certainly there were priests from at least counties Tyrone and Armagh who felt that EM made a huge mistake. What is concerning is the arrogance and blatant nature of the individual. I believe money was a factor also. I am also aware of incidents occuring in Leinster/Munster with this individual which would deem him completely null and void as a cleric.
Again Pat, I am not saying that as a priest I do not sin. We all do. But there is absolutely no place in ministry for disgrace. I would support a diocesan wide investigation.

Well, it has been an interesting two days about Rory. Some interesting points:
1) His behaviour up to 2016 was despicable.
2) Archbishop Martin bent over backwards to get him straightened out, for want of a better word. He also did this with William Mulvihill as the published letters showed some months ago on this blog. Pat Buckley has also helped both of them. Surprise, surprise!!!
3) I am not quite clear if Rory has continued with this type of behaviour up to now. If so, out he goes, quickly, no ifs no buts.
4) It would appear there has been a great betrayal of trust to PB and EM.
5) I had hoped that there would have been a “St Paul to Damascus” event.
6) He seems to have been taking the mick out of everyone and having a gay old time.
7) What on earth does his family think? There has been mention here of a twin brother!!
Rory needs to make a public statement.
