SILVERSTREAM IN FINANCIAL CRISIS ! PARTIALLY BLAMES THIS BLOG !

MONK ADORING KIRBY

“The monastery has received some negative media attention, which may have some negative impact on income for the company. The financial effect this attention could have is difficult to quantify. “

Dear Fr Basil,

Within the Silverstream Priory CLG Directors’ Annual Report for the financial year ended 31 December 2020, one reads the following:

“The Monastery has received some negative media attention, which may have some negative impact on income for the Company. The actual financial effect this attention could have is difficult to quantify. However the Directors are confident that the Company has the capability to continue its activities profitably”.

With the passing of time, on this Palm Sunday evening I would respectfully submit that the confidence of the directors was misguided, churlish, and hubristic. I confidently make this assertion because I have received multiple copies of that begging e-mail evidencing that Silverstream is in dire financial trouble and possibly facing insolvency/bankruptcy. It really could not happen to a nicer community.

Fr Basil I know you have spent several years sequestered from reality in a French monastery that is very much on the fringes. However, people really dislike being emotionally manipulated. The wilful and deliberate reference to the community having undertaken 40 days of Eucharistic Adoration was crass. You expect this oleaginous sales talk from a sleazy and untrustworthy used-car salesman – not from a community of Benedictine monks.

Benedictine monasteries have always been self-supporting — the Benedictine rule is very clear about that reality. What makes Silverstream Priory different? Silverstream Priory is now in the most parasitic fashion begging for money like mendicants. It is my understanding that the bursar and financial director/director of business development was the gay porn-loving Elijah Carroll. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!

Of course, people might be more willing to assist if you had elucidated the many challenges that the community has experienced during the month of March. And, what are the very large expenditures coming up in April? Is the community being sued for Kirby’s actions? Does it have large legal bills to pay? So many questions and no answers forthcoming and the lack of transparency is deeply concerning

Is Bishop Deenihan aware of the dire financial state of the community? Did you consult with your Ordinary about the sending of this begging missive? Did he approve the sending of same?

Is the financial state of the Priory so dire it needs to self-report to the Charities Regulator of Ireland? (RCN): 20080525. Is the company that constitutes Silverstream Priory is insolvent? If so, does it need to make any statutory declaration?

Does the community have the insight to recognise it needs to petition the Holy See for a Decree of suppression? I would be saddened to see it close, because it has provided a rich seam of content from my blog, but, the sooner the place is suppressed the better.

My readership figures go to the roof every time I blog about Silverstream Priory. The monastery was never going to be a success because it emanated from the nefarious personality of its founder, Mark Kirby a man with a nefarious past.

Fr Basil you need to head back to your community in France (if they will have you) and the rest of the misguided young men need letters from Bishop Deenihan (once Silverstream is suppressed) to support the transfer of their monastic vows to legitimate monasteries where they will need serious monastic formation in an authentic Benedictine tradition where they can learn to love the New Mass.

Will the community (that is highly devotional) take on board this the the punishment of the Lord in Holy Week because of its despicable treatment of Dom Benedict Andersen? The community has tolerated the recidivist Dom Mark Kirby and by extension has tolerated: a) his known sexual and financial misconduct over the years is unacceptable; b) the fact that he is treated like a persecuted mystic (some people consider him the Pedro Pio of his age) because he receives “revelations from the tabernacle” is perverse; and, c) his repeated violation of the sacramental seal of confession of both his community and visitors.

In this Holy Week, may the Lord enlighten the darkness that is Silverstream Priory

Stand with Dom Benedict Andersen, victimised by Irish Roman Catholic Church for whistleblowing @ Silverstream Priorysays:

How scurrilous of any Roman Catholic organisation to cite negative media attention as a reason for their financial woes!!

A serious case of selective amnesia on the part of the Holy Ones and their cohorts.

Mark Kirby and his pal Dick Rawhide Purcell didn’t come up with that one on their own.

This is additional evidence of the commitment of the RCC Mafia to prioritise censorship and suppression of the TRUTH above the well being of victim and survivors of church related abuse.

Chapter 48 of the Rule that you refer to:
1 Idleness is the enemy of the soul. Therefore, the brothers should have specified periods for manual labor as well as for prayerful reading. 2 We believe that the times for both may be arranged as follows: 3 From Easter to the first of October, they will spend their mornings after Prime till about the fourth hour at whatever work needs to be done. 4 From the fourth hour until the time of Sext, they will devote themselves to reading. 5 But after Sext and their meal, they may rest on their beds in complete silence; should a brother wish to read privately, let him do so, but without disturbing the others. 6 They should say None a little early, about midway through the eighth hour, and then until Vespers they are to return to whatever work is necessary. 7 They must not become distressed if local conditions or their poverty should force them to do the harvesting themselves. 8 When they live by the labor of their hands, as our fathers and the apostles did, then they are really monks. 9 Yet, all things are to be done with moderation on account of the fainthearted.

Here we have it from the mouth of Saint Benedict himself: the monks of Silverstream are pseudo-monks.

Howling at Silverstream conveniently ignoring the FACT that they’ve spent a fortune facilitating MIA Prior Mark Kirby and others.
What about the stash of cash Kirby had in the office, did he take that to Belgium, doubtful the nuns gave him free accommodations.

I don’t really understand the animus towards the old Mass / TLM / traditional Mass or whatever. Anyhow the Sant’Anselmo / +Arthur Roche hatred of the old Mass frankly won’t matter soon, as it involves graduates of that Benedictine college able to influence Pope Francis through Roche, and is weird, wasteful nonsense set against a fairly imminent collapse of Catholicism in western and northern Europe. In many places it would be stone dead without a mix of migrants and the ability of modern medicine to allow older people fairly active lives.
Monasteries following the c 64-66 Missal (an actual missal of Vatican 2 which clearly follows Sacrosanctum Concilium unlike the New Order which saw Concilium abuse pastoral exceptions and thereby junk a millennium and a half of sublime music and song and see it replaced with usually terrible material) like Le Barroux Abbey or Fontgombault and filiations operate effectively and aren’t nursing homes or havens for economic migration by religious from developing countries, and will continue to do so long after Roche is forgotten about and Sant’Anselmo returns to the obscurity it deserves. Silverstream has its own severe problems (like Kirby and his talking tabernacle and moments of moral forgetfulness) which could be healed by restoring Fr Andersen to the house he helped co-found. Obviously the Latin New Order and LOTH allied with ties to a major Benedictine federation (like the Benedictine Confederation obviously of Sant’Anselmo) is another way, but that would seem redundant.

My favorite thing is traddies, on the basis that they know best and have imagined some sort of crisis, rejecting the lawful authority of the church just like any other heretics do.
There have been anti-councils through history but it is for the church to judge this, not the individual. It is for Catholics to obey the lawful authority of the church.

Like

10:43 And if they collapse it won’t be because of the missal they use. It’ll be because of the kiddy fiddling.
But there is another variable there which is different from Europe – a much higher interest in religion. The reason you don’t hear it touted by the church very much as dead keen is they’re poor areas of the world. The church is bothered when rich people respond badly to their crimes.
Wait until these same people find they’ve been taken in by the trad movement as well. Because remember, according to the priests who comment here, abuse is, like the Catholic church, universal.

The Vatican diplomatic power showed well before the Sacred Council that which mass texts get used didn’t, don’t and shan’t matter. Is it lawful for a head of state to overtly trash our consciences, our conversion and our baptism – none of which ever belonged to the Vatican diplomatic power, with an implied threat against bishops and priests that don’t join in?

Those various questions are probably a decent example of begging the question. Catholicism is not really thriving in the continent of Africa, unless the comparison is made to the nihilist Western Europe. African tinged Pentecostalism and Islam are just two religious competitors that severely challenge V2 African Catholicism in many places like Côte d’Ivoire or much of Nigeria’s states. ‘Kiddy fiddling’ as you call it is overwhelmingly took and takes the form of sexual depravity against teenage boys groomed over a long period. This pederastisation was a consequence of the moral and intellectual collapse of seminaries up to and after V2. They took in anyone, even patent weirdos like, say, Sean Fortune in Waterford. There are other Catholic sexual criminals like the Jesuit artist Rupnik who saw most charges vanish as Pope Francis strictly upheld the statue of limitations. Francis has a horrifying record on dealing with sexual offences by priests and bishops, so no surprise.
‘NO RC in the world legally uses the missal you mention’ is rubbish. Fontgombault has used the V2 era abbreviated prayers at the foot of the altar and wide use vernacular for proper texts since the 80s under specific CDF authorisation. Given you use the prot abbreviation ‘RC,’ simple ignorance is likely with you.
The numbers of Catholics in Africa and Asia (to a limited extent) grow through demographic increase, but church attendance is not particularly strong. If ever religious rivals made a concerted effort, as in Brazil where people were disgusted by such horrors as the unstable fascist turned Communist Hélder Câmara essentially leading Brazil’s bishops in abandoning the preaching practical personal morality needed by families in favour of eulogising red terrorism, the apparent strength of African Catholic might prove illusory. Yet throughout Africa bishops do not fear to preach against sins that are excused in the West, so they have hope. People still resort to Catholic social services as those of the state are so uneven. Perhaps even a new Pope could come from Africa, and Fr James Martin SJ might no longer be met with the present tenderness and Papal blushes.
‘Marshall?’ Most browsers have spellcheck.

Like all priests/religious, bone-idle, genteel bastardos who, rather than work for a living, luxuriate and mince in pious-seeming, showy indolence by sponging off those who do work, but who are too cowed, by the canonical ‘grave obligation’ to support these
men, to notice the moral ‘rip-off’. Were it not so simple a ruse, it would truly be brilliant, given the longevity of its success.
Imagine how better off the Sheep would be were they divested of these ticks: useless, scrounging, freeloading moochers. How much easier it would be for them to cope in the current ‘cost-of-living crisis’ were they not forever piggy-backing these loafers financially. These barnacles on a whale’s belly.
Most of those fleeced by these ‘shepherds’ are old dears barely able to make ends meet. And, still, they are emotionally coerced into financial hardship by parasites who, quite literally, don’t give a biblical damn about them. If they did, they wouldn’t, like the Pharisees Jesus excoriated, impose heavy burdens on them and refuse to lift a helping finger in return.
It’s one of the most twisted and morally perverse confidence tricks in human history, Roman Catholic priesthood, and all that is required to ‘pull it off’ is the blind faith and compliance of ordinary Catholics intellectually immature enough (and, therefore,
emotionally dependent enough) to know better. ‘Ah, but “Father” prays for us all, and “Father’s” prayers, like those of Jesus, are powerful.’ If you are one of those who explain donating in this or similar way, you are admitting to being duped, like a vulnerable five-year-old, by the most manipulative tranche of double-dealing, lying shysters

The Silverstream Benedictines may be able to brazen out the adverse publicity that they have received as the spotlight of this blog has shone on them and has shown the serious dysfunctions that exist in that place and its people. They will not be able to stand against the harsh cold winds of economic reality that will, with some luck, make them incapable of existing independently, and will result in the place folding and the members who are serious about living the monastic life moving away to monasteries that are well grounded and serious about the Benedictine way of life. Home Rule = Rome Rule

Scratch the surface a little & you’ll find not much has changed.

Cute hoor mentality – the sheep baa & enjoy observing injustice from a safe distance. Education staff side with church to protect their employment interests. You’ll note re Cabra and other places.

Elsewhere multiple manifestations of begrudgery and jealousy abound. Safeguarding is just lip service and a joke at this stage in light of the onslaught of new revelations emerging daily.

Rome rule is gone. Indeed not much has changed.
Once you strip away their power of money with no accountability, they might last for a decade or so with millions in their bank accounts. After that, it would be gone or barely there.
Rcc keeps asking especially elderly people to contribute EVERY Sunday even with their bank accounts bulging in terms of millions via property and cash investments. They should resist this.
A simple question to you:
Would you contribute or part your monies to any millionaire in particular on a weekly basis, I guess not. The same thing applies to rcc Sunday collections as well. Rcc is massively weathly in terms of cash, asset rich as as property investments.
Heard one church still collecting monies on a Saturday afternoon. Thought it was a joke until I visited it, it was true with my eyes. Why are they still doing this?
Education staff was part and part of the abuses as they were only interested in getting their salary. That’s about it. One fella was telling me that all lay teachers were culprits, no matter what as I came to realise this truth very recently.
Even a inspector from dept of education visited cabra on ad hoc basis but all teachers were terrified of that inspector. I knew that inspector very well.
But I realised that he didn’t speak or spot boys appearance or lack of food or haggard looking boys at age of 13 to 15 which had me wondering. Dept of education knew it all all along.
We had no communication to speak of cos sign language was banned in classroom which was quite plainly absurd, even down to downright ridiculous. Religious ruled the roost at that time as the reason for banning sign language was very subtle, it was to stop boys from communicating to others or outside.
Safeguarding is an absolute joke, pure total farce, pure scam, no independent false front or mask as a veneer of their respectability. Once you strip that veneer, it’s very ugly inside.

During this period, we also received help from an unexpected source: from our brothers at Silverstream Priory in Ireland. We were delighted that Dom Mark Kirby was allowed to stay with us for some time. This also gave him the opportunity to inspire us and those who visited him through his gift of the word. His brothers not only came to visit him and help cut down trees in the garden. They also offered help with night Adoration, washing dishes, painting around the house, and sometimes even choral prayers on some Feasts to give our (still sick) voices some support with the singing of Latin. For our part, we help the Brothers of Silverstream. Several times a Sister went to help sew choir robes, habits and overalls that needed repair work.

Undoubtedly there will be a huge number of comments re: Silverstream, yet again. Much has been said repeatedly before. I hope and pray that we might moderate and control our attitude and judgment. The Monks, whom I initially supported when they were founded and visited where I received great consolations, must now feel very imprisoned in a place of inner unrest and discomfort, a place no longer conducive to monastic formation, prayer and contemplation in the true Benedictine way. Using gratuitous, insulting and denigratory language is not the response of adults or of those who may have concern for the spiritual, emotional and mental well being of the Monks, as of 8.08am. How nasty, inhumane and vicious a comment from the crank, MC. These type of comments are from bully boy mobsters. I can no longer support this community because its foundations were built on sands of lies, deceit and spiritual delusions. Each monk will have been tainted by earlier conflicts and misjudged behaviour. It will require a total change of leadership, vision, spiritual formation and renewal by more experienced monks from centuries established monasteries. There was potential but sadly the founder was found to be untrustworthy and unsuitable. Can we stop the harassing of these men and peay fervently that they will find a right response to their survival, if that’s to be, or that they initiate a process whereby they decide to disband and request a monastery where their vocation may flourish without the on-going glare of publicity. I feel a certain sadness for these monks: I do not as of now envision their future being here and pray that soon they will be guided wisely to make necessary decisions. Their brand is tainted and broken. God bless them.

11.10 Why are you weeping for the monks of Silverstream? Is it because you believe that, in good faith, they (how does it go?) ‘lost their way’?
My dear, heart-rended friend, they didn’t lose their way, because they, by choice, were never on it, at least not as you would define it. No; these men deliberately chose another, and very bad way, which you initially supported, in person, and financially.
But don’t feel conned or stupid about it. It isn’t your fault, really, since from birth as a little cathbot you have been psychologically programmed to act and trust, by default, that any man who dons a religious habit, or who wears a collar and insists on being called ‘Father’ (even though he is nothing of the kind), is implicitly good and trustworthy, and deserving of your wealth for these very reasons.
But you really SHOULD feel conned and stupid (indeed, you should feel utterly and absolutely ridiculous), if you continue in this attitude toward all these men, given what you now know about their moral duplicity and their criminality.
Doesn’t Paul speak of the personal change, and spiritual outlook, brought about in him through transitioning from childhood to adulthood? Technically, from growing up? ‘When I was a child, I spoke as a child…’ (And all that.) Don’t you think, then, that if Paul were corporeal now, and as lippy as he was back in the day, he might give you the abridged version of his words by telling you, simply, to (as he did) grow up!?
Make this your thought for today (and tomorrow, or until the penny drops).

3.46: You’ve mischievously misread my commentary at 11.10am. I never said I was in mourning. I never said I condone any of the morally, misguided behaviour of any monk in Silverstream. I did say that I “initially” was supportive of this new monastery where I found “consolation” on the few visits I made. That was in the early years. Now, I see clearly that the foundations of this monastery were built on sands. Sadly. We can expect many mistakes and errors in the early days of a new foundation of this kind but now we know the depth of spiritual, financial and sexual abuse. This I utterly condemn. However, I believe that this monastery is unsustainable at this time. It’s a monastery where the formation centred on a delusional mystic and spiritually seductive man. It also had too many men who came from very conservative backgrounds, being mostly home schooled and with a particular vision of being in a monastery and of being a monk. The initiative could have been a success but time has revealed its shortcomings, confusion and lack of strong,
supervised leadership. I don’t feel conned or stupid. I do feel a Christian empathy and compassion for these men because my humanity and sensitivities know that you never change anyone by crushing or demonising them. Nor do we effect necessary change or renewal in others by permanent condemnation. I’ve never felt “conned” by anyone. Ever. My learning of the decades has given me a very critical mind enabling me to weed out the chaff from the wheat and to discern what is morally right and wrong and what leads to spiritual integrity – which is a lifestyle journey. I pray for the monks in the hope that they will soon find a way forward out of their predicament. I contend now that this monastery will remain very conflicted and controversial until each monk is enabled to find a more established Benedictine monastery. And I don’t consider this prayer or hope to be a “weeping” but a genuine desire that these men may find contentment in another place. Yes, questions remain but I can only wish and pray for the well being of these men. I dislike the bulldozing of people into the ground.

6.28: A very fine, fair,, balanced, kind, and merciful comment. I too hope these men will find new life under better structures and leaders. It’s such a shame but the Monks are deserving of some understanding.

Wokery? The polyesters and the traddie peddled the biggest load of wokery for centuries, and got rich on it. Now their wokery is passé. But that doesn’t bother them at all, except that its losing them loads o’ money.
I bet holy mother church wishes she were woke again. 😏

So, Silverstream is both a charity AND a business? And yet, it produces nothing more than pious-sounding twee and earns money from it, given by the suckers who finance it?
Isn’t this sort of thing generally known as a ‘scam’?

That is the most ridiculous statement, “It is for Catholics to obey the lawful authority of the church”
Considering what is stated on this one blog alone, day in day out, should indicate to you, very few Roman Catholic clerics follow the authority of the Roman Catholic church, before even mentioning the laity, who individually select parts of Catholicism which suits their agenda, we all do, the days for autocratic Catholicism in the West has had its day.

It*is* for Catholics to obey the lawful authority of the church. That’s what Catholicism is.
Outside of certain bounds, making up your own definition of catholicity (eg saying there’s a crisis you’ve made up, saying the pope isn’t a pope, rejecting an ecumenical council) is what Protestants do.
So-called traddies, whether they like it or not, are in exactly the same position as Anglican papalists. They will call the Anglicans Protestants but can’t see they are doing the exact same thing.

Put it this way – can you be a Catholic and reject the council of Nicea? No. But it’s not for me to say it’s an ecumenical council, it’s for the church.

Er, what’s your definition of ‘Church’? It clearly isn’t as defined by the Second Vatican Council. Gosh! This makes YOU not a Catholic. Fancy that.

In their report, the three visitators say they are “very concerned about your current financial situation and the economic viability of the monastery.”
“Your income last year was only 50% of what it was in each of the three previous years, but your expenses have been increasing by 20% each year, over the last four years,” they state.
The report says that over 2.5 million euros ($3 million) have been spent purchasing and renovating property at the monastery from 2016 to 2019. It also says that the visitators spoke to the monastery’s auditor, who expressed concern “about your tendency to spend all the money you have and not put anything into reserve.”
The report states that going forward, Silverstream must produce an annual budget that is voted on and approved by the monastery.

Clearly Silverstream have not listened to the concerns of the visitation, and have not cleaned up their act financially. Simply amazing.

I’m not sure where people got the idea that Bishop Fanta was part of the visitation of Silverstream. According to the various news articles, the visitors were Abbot Brendan Coffey, Abbot Rawhide Purcell, and Monsignor Gearoid Dullea. I suppose Dullea just flies under the radar for not being extremely stupid like Coffey or morally corrupt like Purcell.
