UNHOLY SILENCE – AN IMPORTANT INSIGHT

KEVIN LEE

I am not the first person to identify serious flaws in the way the Catholic Church deals with allegations of sexual abuse. That priests are living double-lives and contradictions are apparent in the way they actually live with the way they profess to live is not in dispute.

In her scandalous but rarely read 2005 book, Priests in Love, Jane Anderson makes an admission to widespread sexual infidelity amongst Australian Catholic clergy.

The author surveyed thousands of priests promised anonymity and presented a compendium of confessions from men who have turned their back on mandatory celibacy to follow their own consciences.

She rightly observed that “prior to Vatican Council II (1962-65) the liturgical practice reflected the firm belief that the Mass was a sacrifice in which the priest and his actions were distinctly separate from the people. Everything was centred on the priest at the altar.” [1]

The priest was separated from the people and his role was so central to the lives of Catholics that they became revered as cultic leaders, almost the personification of Jesus on earth.

The publicly promoted premise behind the insistence on celibacy was that the priest needed to be as pure and spotless as the offerings that he handled. A vow of chastity was what qualified a man to hold such an esteemed preaching position within the church.

Of course, to maintain this façade, the priest must at least appear to be chaste even if he were not. Bishops, who rely on a number of such willing men to celebrate the daily Mass, will never pry into the priests’ personal lives to determine whether or not he was, for fear of finding out to the contrary.

Today, in Catholic parishes throughout the world and particularly in Australia, men are pretending to be celibate in order to hold the exalted office of priest. They are keeping up the image for a church that is losing its way in secular society. Catholicism is significantly losing its influence with the community and even with its own remnant adherents.

If it were not for its ubiquitous parochial school system and the government grants sustaining them, the Catholic Church would have died out long ago.

The ongoing financial success and academic leadership of Catholic schools are propping up the Church’s flagging identity and topping up the church coffers depleted after endless sexual abuse compensation claims.

But the church still needs to have enough men willing to celebrate the Sunday Mass o give the impression that it is business as usual. It doesn’t matter whether or not these men are in fact celibate, as long as they look like they are.

No one within the organisation speaks publicly about this although most are aware of the hypocrisy.
I should know…

I was one of them.

PAT SAYS

I can’t believe how niaeve and innocent I was when I entered seminary in September 1970 – 53 years ago.

I really believed that the RCC was good and that the vast majority of priests were good, too.

I continued in that belief through seminary, and when I heard of, at that time, the rare bad priest or seminarian, I was introduced to and accepted that old RCC lie – the “one bad apple” excuse.

After ordination, I was released into the clerical pool.

Within my first year, two senior clerics – canons – and one Cistercian Abbot had tried to sexually seduce me.

I lived with two elderly parish priests who subjected me to extreme forms of verbal and psychological bullying.

I lived with priests who were alcoholics and womanisers.

In Northern Ireland, I was again bullied in presbyteries to the point of being physically beaten.

In later years came the tsunamis of the sexual abuse of children, the Magdalen Laundries, the secret graves of babies murdered by nuns, the rape of nuns etc, etc.

But the other great big scandal in the RCC has been the gradual and now almost complete HOMOSEXUALISATION of the RCC episcopate and priesthood.

The RCC priesthood is now a GAY PROFESSION.

Most of those gay priests are sexually active – and not just with individual males – but in gay saunas and at gay orgies.

Add the FINANCIAL CORRUPTION to all of this, and you now have an RCC that is more corrupt than the Italian Mafia, the Chinese Triads, and the Russian mobsters.

This situation will continue for a long time as the RCC is very rich and powerful.

It will only finish when the last child is abused, the last nun is raped, the last seminarian is sodomised on the monastery kitchen table, the last priest visits a gay sauna – the last foolish pensioner gives the last bishop 5,0000 cash, the last altar is descreated with semen etc ………

The RCC has been crucified Christ every day for 1700 years.

This crucifixion will continue every day until …..

Patsy you were saying that prior to Vatican II The Mass was a Sacrifice, it still is. Vatican II could not change that as you know, although with the shenanigans of the polyesters you can’t blame younger generations for not knowing what The Holy Sacrifice of The Mass is. As regards the dreadful time you had with those elderly priests there is always two sides to a story can you imagine what they felt to be confronted by a passive aggressive attention seeking curate. No wonder they reacted they must have been delighted when you left.

The Mass is fundamentally a meal which commemorates a sacrifice in which communicants agree to participate and from which they draw the grace to do so.

Your stressing the sacrificial facet of the Mass misunderstands the nature of Passover Seder, itself a commemorative, Jewish meal. What we call ‘The Last Supper’ (from which Mass is derived) was, in fact, such a meal.

If you don’t know the Jewish origin of the Mass, you’ll never know and understand the Mass itself.

I know and understand The Holy Sacrifice of The Mass very well. It is the renewal on our Altars of the unbloody Sacrifice of Mount Calvary offered for the living and the dead. Nothing at all to do with any Jewish meal your, understanding is wrong and heretical.

You know and understand nothing at all, except how to be historically ignorant, and personally stubborn.
The Mass IS fundamentally a meal. We EAT bread, and we DRINK wine, to commemorate the crucified Jesus, and in obedience to his instruction, EAT my body, and DRINK my blood.
These prandial elements, historical and theological, are completely missing from your pre-Vatican II ‘understanding’ of the Mass. Come into the present, and stop showing yourself up.

It has to be said, to claim, as you attempt, an absence of Jewish categories on which authentic eucharistic theologies are based is wholly incorrect. Jesus was Jewish. As was Mary and the vast majority of early disciples and apostles.

Pat, while I think you are unnecessarily tarring all of us in one sweep, many of us, like you, though in different ways, are making daily efforts to stay faithful to priesthood and to the core of what “priesthood” in Christ actually means: for me, its one thing – service of others in imitation of Christ. This in itself is a monumental challenge and many of us fail the test but still believe in it. Holy Thursday will be our reminder of what true service is about – the JESUS way only. It’s over 40 years since I was ordained and I am shocked at the changes that have occurred within and outside the church. The abuse scandals and the inexcusable, criminal negligence of Bishops is a grave, almost unforgiveable sin/crime. The poor and careless treatment of victims and survivors will remain an eternal damnation on the Church. The revelations of various clerical scandals in every way are reprehensible and contrary to the ideals we espouse and promise to live. In the face of enormous moral debauchery, corruption and duplicitous behaviour by many, it is disheartening and dusillusioning to remain with confidence (in my lifetime) that a completely new model of “service” in Christ will be defined. Each day, those of us who are doing our utmost to do what we dedicated ourselves to doing and being have to fervently pray to God to keep us strong, caring, faithful, kind and prayerful. While we are human and prone to the vagaries, sins and imperfections of our humanity, the integrity of our “priestly” vows must be a moment by moment renewal within. While many efforts are being made in parishes to create servant leadership where we affirm the gifts of all and let them flourish, the “priesthood” of now is badly broken. For me, the wonderfully good, prayerful and Christ like parishioners with whom I work are my salvation and inspiration. I still maintain that you should have founded more Oratories…with the one objective of restoring true gospel living. But such comes at a price which we are not always willing to pay.

Priesthood in Christ, 11.38? A contradiction in terms, surely, since Jesus was not a priest. Nor a rabbi either, for that matter, though some addressed him in this way. I wonder if it ever went to Jesus’ head, that title, the way it has gone to priests’ heads from being called ‘Father’.
The Gospel’s a strange work, isn’t it? Telling us things that aren’t true to entice us to the Truth, to Jesus himself? If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear we were being pranked.

Clerics and their networks are complicit in institutional and personal dysfunction simply by being there and doing nothing to address the tsunami of allegations that have emerged in recent decades about colleagues in their midst. They are complicit whether they admit it to themselves or each other or not.
The right thing for them to do in order to continue to claim the attributes they falsely self-proclaim is to deal robustly and directly with allegations and to ensure that the values that they and their Church are supposed to uphold are upheld.
They can do this with compassion and care to all if they wish, but they have to be seen to do something, rather than just burying their heads in the sand, which can be seen as naive, but I am beginning to think it is a sign of disdainful and dismissive arrogance.
Whatever, by their present attitude in refusing to engage with these serious allegations, they make themselves complicit in what has happened and what is happening now. We have the right, therefore, to call them out. there is a solution. They just don’t seem willing to take it.

All those priests out showing themselves off, parading down the aisle, reinforcing their specialness and their ontological apartness and difference. What a load of nonsense. Most of them these days can barely waddle down the aisle, so fat are they, or old, or tottery. But, they will do everything to be there today and to be seen, to be relevant. Half of them will be from abroad, and you can see the conceit on their faces; their time will shortly come and they will be in charge. You think the Russians are good at kleptocracy? You just wait and see what some of our foreign priests are capable of in the transfer of financial goods. So, all in all, the collection of clergy who will gather today should largely be retired or in care homes, and the other crowd should be very carefully watched. And, still the bishop will mutter inanities and platitudes.

Padraig I agree that the delivery may have been somewhat harsh but the sentiments are correct.
The ostentatious displays of religious authority at events like Good Friday are atrocious. Of course in Ireland 1955 the locals were duly impressed with this pageantry of hypocrisy writ large in lace, incense and funny hats. Now of course its a joke. Meanwhile back in 1955 these ogres – beasts really – were abusing children and adults the length and breadth of Ireland. It would be interesting to know what Kevin Lee told Cardinal Pell. Everything, I suppose, including the incidence of clerical paedophilia in his own pastoral patch (likely a microcosm of what goes on across the Catholic clerical world). But (sigh) I have so many books to read, would it be wise to add Lee’s to the list? I admit I’m tempted. And, yet, I’m barely halfway through Martel’s weighty tome. Decisions, decisions.
Back on point though, the Sheep should take especial note of what Lee says about their donations’ funding indolent, hedonistic, sexually promiscuous clerical lifestyles. How do they feel about this? Would they want even to be associated with, never mind fund, a church that not only tolerates these men, but actually facilitates their extravagant sinning? And would Jesus approve if they did either, never mind both? It would kind of defeat the point of being a Christian, wouldn’t it? The Sheep seem to have no sense of such nuance.
Yesterday, a commenter described priests as morally spineless. Was it a little harsh? Who knows? But now even I am beginning to wonder. Kevin Lee says that many of these men did not become priests to serve Christ, but to serve themselves: to enjoy an all-expenses-paid lifestyle with considerable perks, including sexually criminal acts. Narcissists to a man. So, I naturally ask myself how these men could be anything BUT morally spineless? Selfish people are not known for courage, are they?
Catholic priesthood is not a barrel with a few dozen bad apples: it is a rotted barrel, infested throughout with the woodworm of corruption and vice. How could it produce anything other than men equally corrupt and vice-ridden? Men not in the least interested in serving Christ (which DOES require moral backbone), but men drawn only to self-service. Moral cowards who will exploit every opportunity, in any and every way, to satisfy each moral vice in their corrupted ambitions and proclivities, but who will avoid, as though they were the plague, occasions calling for self-denial and self-sacrifice, for that very rare thing among Catholic priests: Christian courage. Want a recent example? Facilitating, through conscienceless silence, Bishop Cullinan’s high farce that a certain Cistercian ‘monk’ was a priest ‘in good standing’ with the Church (even if he wasn’t obviously so with Christ).
Recently on Facebook, I was struck by the following: ‘Waste no time on people who expect you to cross oceans for them, but who wouldn’t jump across a puddle for you.’ And do you know what? I immediately thought of Catholic priests.
It’s a funny old world.

It’s genuinely sad to think that the Cistercians are as corrupt as the rest.

Like

The sadness is the result of a normal human coping strategy. It’s very distressing to think that the notional alleged bride of Christ is up to her elbows in crime. So people justify this in their heads to reconcile these two things. Examples of these are the ‘few bad apples’argument, attempts to find ‘faithful’ parts of the church, attempts to blame it on things like modernism or the sexual revolution. The most ludicrous is the rationale where the RC church is supposedly no worse than anyone else (if it’s no better, what is the point of it?).
As for the Cistercian s St Benedict is often pictured with his finger to his lips as in this statue from Silverstream, which suggests bad as well as good silence:

Basically, if you’re surprised or shocked at any amount of depravity and duplicity, it’s because you’ve been scammed.

Actually the old mass (in fact not the 1570 missal at all, only the 1962 one) has been banned because its use was only allowed for a limited time with the intention of trying to get the SSPX back inside the fold. Now that that has been unsuccessful the experiment has been stopped.
That this obvious purpose of the exercise wasn’t communicated is just normal church deceit although a heavy hint that it shouldn’t be considered usual was in Pope Nazinger’s coining of the phrase ‘extraordinary’ for it.
You have to laugh at the so-called ‘trads’ raging at Francis when it was Adolf that pulled the wool over their eyes.
Incidentally the choice of the 1962 missal (which had already started to undergo changes, including the complete revision of Holy Week) was significant because that was the missal Archbishop Lefebvre allowed for the SSPX, and his intention was to put off the absolutely fanatical sedevacantist types by picking an edition of the missal which isn’t actually the trad one they make it out to be.
He also went for quite simple ceremony to put off the lace queens: I don’t think you will find a picture of him wearing the cappa magna for example.
The other reason that the business of the missal isn’t a smoke screen is that regulating the liturgy is normal business for the Holy See: as usual the crisis is in the heads of the trads, not anyone else, just as it is with Cor Orans. Why would the pope want to stamp out the religious life of the church? These people are deluded.

Did Lefebvre ordain 4 bishops I think back in 1977 or 78?

LOLOL no cappa magna.

Did u ever hear jesus wearing cappa magna in his 33 years?

Its feminine I think and also a huge demonstration of power like a king, NOT like jesus on a donkey on palm Sunday but mother Burke insists wearing it. That is not humility, all I could say was ‘stuff him’ without swearing it.

But I find some value in TLM mass cos went there and experienced it as well. My preference is low mass. But I don’t go there anymore due to TC crackdown.

Tell me where in the bible, does it say that I must attend Mass?

It was interesting re Mel Gibson father as sedevactanist , does it affect his son Mel?

The priest I met way some 20 years ago in Rome, was the same priest who said TLM masses for Mel Gibson and Catholic crew of the film ‘passion of christ’. His family came from the French Royal lineage. He spoke 4 or 5 languages as he worked in the Vatican.

He told me a little story about ppvi and himself. He knew all popes going back to pius vii.

Deaf Guy,
Had your only experience of ‘Christianity’ been the more rarified strata of the Latin and lace brigade you would be excused for thinking that Jesus went round dragged up like Liberace.

DG 4.34 the Bible does NOT say you should use frequent “communion”. We ought to put the Bible first and totally nix the cliquey JP II.

This is an interesting admission because they did the same thing to the trad. English mass facing the people, which we had in my then district (and I think Ireland and America didn’t). I disagree with your conclusion because it was obvious the cliques that pull popes’s strings want to quash our spiritual life.

The Diocese of East Anglia has teamed up with the Free Will Network to offer 20 parishioners the chance to have a will written for free.
Last month’s newspaper announced that the Diocese has joined Your Catholic Legacy and the Free Wills Network to shine a spotlight legacy giving, an area of giving we often ignore.
While people are naturally older when they die, people of all ages can and do make charitable wills. By the age of 40, most people will have experienced a life change that puts them in a position to contemplate making a will and therefore a charitable gift.
The National Free Wills Network is a scheme which allows parishioners to
have a simple will written free of charge. There is also the facility for couples to have mirror wills too. It’s a really easy-to-use service which has resulted in thousands of wills being written over the years, benefitting a huge range of charities. Any number of charities can be listed in a will.
To launch this new service and to encourage parishioners to take advantage of this new arrangement, the Diocese is offering 20 free wills to the first parishioners who come forward before the end of May. Those parishioners who decide to use this service will have the opportunity to have their wills written/updated free of charge.

From cradle to grave they are on the make
No wonder they can afford energy guzzling hot tubs for their priests and undertakers to share whilst the victim of domestic abuse is forced to serve nuts, nibbles & beverages.

Never leave the church a share of your residuary estate. As residuary beneficiaries, they get a say in the administration of the estate. My dad left 25% of his estate to the parish. The diocese took the money free of Inheritance Tax and decided to appoint expensive solicitors. I wanted my dad’s old Rover car, which he had promised me, but they said they had to get the best possible price for it as they were a charity. They paid £300 for a professional valuation and then told me it was worth £4,500, and I had to take less of my 75% if I wanted it. They are sharks. If you are mad enough to leave them anything in a will, then leave a cash gift of no more than a few hundred, so they can’t have a say in how your estate is administered.

These free wills schemes are used by lawyers as loss leaders to sell you lasting powers of attorneys and trusts and to eventually get the probate. Don’t go near them.

Pat, thank you for continuing to highlight the despicable state of the Roman Catholic church and, it’s clergy, many of us are jaded, some have even become complacent, because of the ongoing sexual abuses and, other deceptions that is continued by Roman Catholic clerics worldwide.
Just recently Father Hans Zollner an expert in the field of child sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic clergy, stated he knows the papal proprio, Lux Estis Mundi is not working, he has resigned from the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, his own statement, “a blistering denunciation of the commission’s failures in
“responsibility,
compliance,
accountability
and transparency,”
all of which “have made it impossible for me to continue further.”
What does that tell us? Could it be more damning?
Roman Catholic Cardinal Sean O’Malley even went so far as to lie about the reason Zollner reigned. Guess what? O’Malley was a Holy Ghost/Spiritan priest in Nigeria. Well, well well what’da know, a fine training no doubt was gained there, I wonder how many Irish Spiritan Roman Catholic priest he encountered there, who were banished from Ireland, because of their sexually abusive proclivities?
How are they to be trusted?
I have some sympathy for those who try their best, and being tarred with the same brush, however there is complicity by the fact they remain and, stay silent.
Only last week U’K Home Secretary Suella Braverman has said “people working with children will be under a legal duty to report “signs or suspicions of sexual abuse” It still has to be clarified how this will affect the Roman Catholic church.
It was edifying to hear Kevin Lee talk about what he heard in Confessions, is it a wonder the Roman Catholic church does now want to break the seal of Confession, too many of their own would have to be reported to police, as being a danger to be around children.
I bet the seal of Confession is broken frequently, as for example in the case with the Roman Catholic monk, Mark Kirby, who the hell monitors if it is broken or not? Nobody!
To put the institution of the Roman Catholic church above Roman Catholic children is unforgivable in my opinion.
The immense damage emotional inflicted to child or, minor, sexual abused and, lets not forget spiritually damage, due to child and minors sexual violated, one would think safeguarding that would take priority above all else, but which is not even considered it would appear.

Hans Zollner , he has it long time coming cos he wasnt fit to tie the laces of commission of the minors.
Coming from a perspective of an abused, its laughable cos he hadn’t a clue where to start, in other words, he had no experience in dealing with the abusers and the abused people as well.
It is like throwing a newbie into a very deep dive at the abyss end which he knew nothing about it.
Plus couple of resignations such as Marie collins.
If the vatican are really serious about it and want it to sort it out, it would be advisement to put an abused person in chairperson for the commission of the minors cos of their experience, nous and his or her knowledge dealing with rcc etc.
No wonder the Vatican including all the curia has become a laughing stock. Nobody isnt going to take them seriously given all the errors and faux pas that they made over the years.

Pat I was naive like most others. I suppose it was the day and age that was in it. Thankfully I never witnessed or have i been victim of sexual misconduct. Structure is important to faith and religion. Sadly when structure takes over, God is shelved and the rot sets in. It was only when I started working in a supportive multi faith environment I came to know Jesus as a person and not a product. For me Jesus is first Denominations are second and should be seen as informed systems of religious expression. Easter greetings and blessings to all

Thanks for the link.

Did he lefebvre ever give his real reasons for ordaining bishops? No body knows for sure as to why did he proceed with bishopric ordination?

I know he was in Africa for many years, its probably likely that he had seen the effects of rcc abuses in Africa. Was that the real reason that he went ahead with Bishop ordinations?

Had a little chat with ex curia priest for many years as he came from French royal family. He told me some details that he disagreed with Vatican /Pope as he asked Pope for permission to leave. It was granted. He was a mystic priest which I hadn’t seen it before until after I left Rome. There was something about him that I couldn’t figure it out with 1920 shoes and eccentric as well. But I saw something during his mass as I wondered what was that. It was only after few years I began to think he was a mystic, hidden.

DG Bishops are Consecrated not Ordained. Archbishop Lafebvre explaned his reason for the Consecrations, he knew he was being strung along by those satanists in the Vatican. They were forever promising to give one name but kept putting it off hoping that he would die. He could not leave his Fraternity without a Bishop

D.G. is actually correct. Roman Catholic bishops are ordained. It’s the third level of the sacrament of orders. Consecrated is the name for the abrogated rite. Before correcting someone, do your research.
