Quite regularly, comments such as the one below appear on the blog.
Such comments, in my view, generally eminate from highly exploitative clerics, who try to confuse us on situations that call for “mercy” and situations that call for condemnation.
People on here often say that there are good priests out there.
I’m sure there are.
But since starting this blog, even I have been shocked at the number of evil priests that are out there – and indeed at the depth of their evilness.
A priest having sex upon an altar is an evil beyond evil – not just because of the act itself – but because of the evil affront it represents to God and the Blessed Eucharistic.
A bishop covering up such evil is also evil by association and as an accomplice after the act.
The proper reaction to such an act is not “mercy”. It is moral outrage and condemnation.
An individual seminarian or priest or a group of seminarians or priests, planning or executing the moral and sexual rampage of another is not an act that requires mercy. It is an act that demands moral outrage and condemnation.
The transformation of a seminary into a homosexual whore house – leading to the moral and personal destruction is not an act calling for mercy. It is an act calling for moral outrage and condemnation.
Do you really think that Ted Mc Carrick has been and is going around seeking mercy?
Absolutely not!
Do you really think that Richard Purcell is going around seeking mercy?
Absolutely, not !
People like these are the kind that Compline reminds us of – going around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour.
Mercy is what the repentant seek.
Mercy us what the humble seek.
Mercy is what the sinner seeks.
The call to practice mercy is indeed a central call in the Christian life.
But as Jesus Himself reminds us; the merciful will have mercy shown to them.
We do not throw the pearls of mercy to the mercilessness, the exploitors, the abusers, the astronauts of evil.
Those? We call them out for what they are.
Even when they mock both us and God with their witch like whimpering of mercy, mercy, mercy…

Catholic clergy are prone to confuse mercy and justice – they insist on mercy for themselves but resist justice for their nefarious deeds which they interpret as either media persecution or a skewed legal system.
They are prone to squeal like little piggies when called out for and exposed and they prefer to bury bad news so that it doesn’t see the light of day.

It’s his obsession with Catholicism that is really worrying, he put up a video the other day pretending it’s 2063 and a future imaginary Pope Leo 14th, calls the mass a nostalgic disease. Am surprised he hasn’t taken the video down yet. Robert really needs an intervention, psychologically it can’t be healthy thinking that he is more Catholic than the Pope.

Sadly, seminaries are not the only whore houses in the Church. People in their naivety or gullibility are very easily deceived by wolves in sheep’s clothing whose Master is the father of lies. Satan’s power is in the lie. Almost 20 years ago, an old wise religious mentioned to me ‘the grapevine has gone sour’.
The grapevine is now rotting. People both inside and outside the Church, including clerics, cannot wait until the grapevine has shrivelled up, withered, and completed rotted. They will dance at the crossroads of Ireland when the Church is dead and gone with O’ Leary in the grave.

Walt Joy was convinced his shallow and narrow Schelerism was sufficient to guard him against materialism in sacraments, in any family life of his adherents, and in active sociology. He used to say “go out into the deep” but didn’t understand it.
It’s not on for international diplomats and police to disapprove of us when we criticise the ferment and intrusion of the pharisees.
A materialist view of sacraments took hold before the Donatists. Augustine switched the important thing from (real) baptism to ordination and also took a materialistic view of the metaphor in original sin.
Some clergy and the occasional suffragan have belief but the system is undermining them increasingly.

Clergy I know feel sorry for themselves because of the societal change of perception and loss of status – we all know that privately they despise victims of child abuse for having the temerity to open their mouths and cause all this trouble for them.
Elsie said at IICSA that he was beginning to ‘get it’ that raping a child was a bad thing not something he could sweep under the carpet.
No sense of justice, right from wrong and they get mercy as long as it’s directed towards them but they don’t get justice.
Remember Elsie saying how much courage it took for a clerical child abuser to admit yes he taped a child!!

I heard Elsie talking about praying for the perpetrator of abuse when he was in Birmingham in some of the cases and individuals he had there. He had a tendency to try and minimise what had happened in favour of the cleric involved. Yes, I can believe that he spent a long time not knowing that raping a child was a bad thing ! He will have thought that the child was the one who initiated the act and had misled the priest ! He’s not the only one who thought like that. I think there are some still around who do.

Cynical clerics and their colleagues use victim blaming tactics and try to make survivors feel bad just for being alive to defend themselves. They and their agents engage in psychological abuse in the hope that victims will commit suicide. The dead can’t speak, the RC relies on silence to continue its cycle of criminality.

Fr. Slattery had a penchant for handsome fait haired young men . It appears that indiscretions came back to bite him when two former students who were brothers found the courage to blow the whistle on him some years later after their ordination, They have both left the diocese now. Others were groomed with sailing trips.
There were late night visitors to Slatts room, and rumour had it they weren’t plying scrabble.
He was removed from his parish under a cloud and died some time ago.

9.04: Yes, those who know know and know where they are. The two brothers went abroad and have done very well for themselves. The two, like one or two others, felt superior to others and enjoyed their time with the Dean of philosophy. Continuing to visit from one to another during and after college was very regular. As in all such multiple relationships, some get very hurt and can be psychologically damaged. It was always spoken about in college and after ordination. Most of us knew to avoid a certain set of accomodations in Clonliffe. My view is that long after ordination the friendships continued and by consent. No adult lecturer should ever cross boundaries with students but the brothers must have heard the innuendo and hearsay re: lecturer. I can’t say exactly say what went wrong that necessitated them, as adults, taking a case against their very long term friend!!!

This sounds like a reasonable idea, certainly to prevent characters like Oliver O’Grady from reappearing and taking advantage of their position again but is it? Like all criminal record checks, like DBS in England, all it tells you is that someone hasn’t been caught and convicted. It isn’t evidence of good character or that someone is not an abuser. The danger is also that people will fall into the lazy thinking that someone with a QR code is safe. The best way of protecting the young and vulnerable is constant vigilance and reporting any concerns, however slight, as soon as possible.

Where criminal, abusive behaviour has been committed the civil courts must administer justice and accord appropriate punishment. We may not always be content with outcomes of judgment but a civil process takes place and judgments are made. We see this everyday on the steps of courts. As Christians we are called to imitate CHRIST in all things. Ministers or pastirs especially must name truth and wrongdoing but with mercy and justice. Naming the sin is essential. If, as happens, a penitent expresses a very serious sin, hw/she must be challenged and encouraged to try repent and m are amends. We must be very truthful with some penitent. Very truthful almost to the point of not inferring the absolution, which I did only once. Bur primarily, our role as minister of Christ is to be merciful in our understanding and wise in discernment. To show mercy, understanding and give spiritual and moral advice are at the core of the Gospel of Christ. While criminal abusers deserve the full rigour of civil law, my task as a priest is surely to help redeem and renew the sinner, not chase them down and vultures them to scraps. I fund that there’s something of triumphalism going on each time a cleric is ignominioysly flattened. My thoughts may be wrong but I’ve tried the way of Christ with many tough and difficult people and will always do so, even if at times I feel like throwing some over a cliff..The question posed by the moderator of this blog has urged us to ask – WHAT WOULD JESUS DO OR SAY – this is my marker and I approach all people the same way….and in thus respect I cannot delight over anyone’s sinfulness or wrongful behaviour.

The problem with you, dear ‘Father’, is that when you mention sin, justice, repentance, you are thinking, not of yourself and the corrupt institution you bow before (Baal), but of lay Catholics, from whom one, in your presumptuous arrogance, you withheld absolution. You priests, despite everything now known by the wider public about you all, still, astonishingly, tend to see yourselves as the good guys, the moral cavalry sent out to rescue the fallen faithful from evil and damnation. What a sick joke! It is priests who are driving people away from Christ, because, in your hubris, you have identified Christ with yourselves, and, so, have had him condemned along with you for all the evil you have perpetrated, and continue to perpetrate.
Why do some Catholics (admittedly, a dwindling minority) still confess to ‘Father’? Isn’t Jesus good enough for them? That’s another problem with priests: they have usurped Christ, having people rely on them rather than on God. And look what happens when priests disappoint? How many souls are murdered each time by these usurpers.
Nowhere in the New Testament does Christ command that a person confess to a priest. Why? Because Jesus did not institute priesthood, especially one that would usurp him as redeemer.

Pat, why did you publish the outrageous sniping at priests and priesthood in the comment at 10.30? Those criticisms are gross and inaccurate, and I insist that you delete them asap.
Priesthood is sacred, instituted of God by Jesus Christ, where Jesus says “whose sins you shall forgive they are forgiven, and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained”. Who else was Our Lord speaking of if not priests, since only priests can forgive sins?
Priests are entitled to respect and reverence, since they are ministers of the Sacred Word. And they bring Jesus to the people through the Sacraments. Without the priest, there is no Jesus and therefore no redemption. As the Curé of Ars rightly said, “the priest is next to Christ”. Not even the Virgin Mary is ranked higher in heaven than the priest.
People should be grateful for their priests and show them appropriate deference, for when a person meets a priest, he meets Christ.

I think men like Nugent attract the vulnerable: the psychologically insecure, those with low self-esteem, the frightened looking for reassurance. The potential for abuse here … for exploitation … is obvious.

That’s nothing. My mother used to teach so-called natural family planning. Imagine how embarrassing that was in my teens. Notably only two of the couples she taught were Catholic and all of them were having trouble conceiving so really only wanted to know the most fertile time so they could go at it like rabbits then.

Who in their right mind would switch on their computer to watch this very leery looking man Mr Nugent rabbiting on about masturbation. Personally, I do not care what anyone chooses to do in privacy as long as they are not abusing, exploiting, intimidating, threatening or hurting anyone. Of course, doing this in public is a very different matter. I do recall attending a convent school many moons ago when we thought priests and nuns were as good as God himself. An old tramp used to sit on the ground outside the convent gate when he’d know we were coming out of school. He would expose himself outside the school on a regular basis. Our headmistress was a very strict authoritarian nun so we were afraid to mention this. However when eventually a few girls did approach a pleasant nun, that nun and the girls were ridiculed by the nun in charge and nothing was ever done about the old tramp who carried on regardless and eventually left of his own accord. In retrospect, I doubt our parents would have sent us to a convent school if they’d known the truth about the attitudes of religious to what is now known as Safeguarding. Our grandchildren attend lay schools where concerns are genuinely addressed and dealt with.

Last year I watched a few of Robert’s videos. I very rarely comment on RN. I believe he is a good sincere man, but naive. crimes such as “obscene acts with animals”, “solicitation of sex during confession”, and “gravely sinful offences perpetrated against children” with the utmost secrecy. And that secrecy, reaffirmed by John XXIII, was continued by every pope since, including the current one, Pope Francis.

It is a well known fact the secret service (Church of England’s ”heavies”) have been accused of assisting in the covering up of child abuse in both the Church and the political domain. Cyril Smith, the Lancashire MP got away with it for years.
Police officers have gone on the record saying the secret service would turn up at police stations and insist they ‘stop all investigations in their tracks otherwise they would be breaching the official secrets Act.’

Pope Francis boasted to an audience that he had scolded a woman who came to him to bless her dog who she called ‘my baby.’
He has garnished a reputation for slapping, scolding and rebuking lay people especially women – he can dish it out, can he take it?

6:40 Fr Ger Fitzgerald for all his shenanigans that we knew nothing about at the time, he was very good to the animals and our little terrier was blessed by him at the Cloughleigh masses. Very nice it was. Shame on Pope for carrying on like that to the poor lady and her dog.

I doubt that this is a historical incident in Jesus’ life. It is inconceivable that no one stopped his rampage, unless the attack (and it was an attack) upon the legitimate, and necessary, commerce of Temple sacrifice was so ferocious that Jesus appeared quite mad, and the traders were afraid of him.
Jesus had visited the Temple yearly, since boyhood, and would have been very familiar with this aspect of Temple life. Why, then, did it take him so long to take such red-hot offence? (Please don’t respond tritely that it was not his appointed time to lose the run of himself. It is such a silly cliché.)

“Priests are entitled to respect and reverence.” Of course they are not entitled to anything, they are meant to be of the people, not some high and mighty being, lording it over the plebs. I am sure you must mean earning respect rather than offering it through deference, they can’t demand respect, nor should they expect or, be given it unless it’s deserved, it does not come with the job anymore. Those days of doffing the cap to every priest irrespective of their behaviour is gone.
I wonder where you have been for the last 20-30 years. You obviously can read and write, or is it you do so electively, surely you have heard of the child rapes, sadistic beatings, cruel physical and psychological damage meted out to some of the most vulnerable children by those Roman Catholic priests, and nuns and religious order members.
“The priesthood is a sacramental presence, that when the priest acts, Jesus Christ acts”. I hope Jesus is not acting through some of the worse reprobates and, paedophiles imaginable.
All this talk about sins, what do you think about the crimes.

For instance, God has bound salvation to the sacrament of baptism, but he himself is not bound by his sacraments, meaning even the unbaptised can have redemption, with or without priests, through God’s will. Etc, etc, etc
