SILVERSTREAM – AN UPDATE.

Dear Bishop Tom,

It has been a little bit of time since the Bishop at Larne sent an e-mail asking some questions of the Ordinary of Meath about Silverstream Priory; however, good things come to those who wait.

Recently, it was brought to my attention that in the 2023 edition of the Irish Catholic Directory, none of the priests of Silverstream Priory are listed as clerics of the Diocese of Meath. The only cleric mentioned is the current superior Fr Basil MacCabe who is on loan from a French Abbey, and I am led to understand that is a priest of the Archdiocese of Dijon, due to the somewhat novel arrangement between Abbey of Saint-Joseph de Clairval and the Archdiocese of Dijon.

Who in canon law is responsible for the increase of Silverstream Priory?

It is, of course, you Bishop Deenihan because you are the Ordinary of the diocese! I am reliably informed that a monastery sui juris of diocesan right is unable to incardinate clerics. I am further reliably informed that you have actively dealt with jurisdictional matters concerning the Priory.

Why is the Diocese of Meath obsessed about refusing to acknowledge its canonical and juridical responsibilities for the clerics of Silverstream Priory? What are you hiding?

Why are you so afraid of taking responsibility for the clerics of Silverstream Priory?

Are you concerned about potential liabilities emanating from for the notorious past acts of Fr Mark Daniel Kirby the disgraced founder of Silverstream Priory?

Do you deny that your predecessor Bishop Michael Smith incardinated by Decree Fr Kirby into the Diocese of Meath.

Speaking of Fr Kirby, where is he at the moment? Is he still in the Netherlands with the nuns? If so — is he there with your written permission?

I am sure readers of my blog will be delighted to see that you were attending the scandal-ridden Silverstream Priory for the first profession of vows of Columba Ryan. Were you hoping that your presence would ameliorate some of the scandal? It is a massive vote of confidence.

IS TOM D PUTTING ON THE WEIGHT AFTER ALL THESE CELEBRATIONS ?

However, it would have been better if you had stayed away.

I am delighted to see that Elijah “porn again” Carroll is still a member of the community.

Are you planning to ordain him a Deacon any time soon? If so, I am sure the people of God in the Diocese of Meath might want to be apprised and they might not be too happy.

Looking at some of the photographs, some of the older members of the community look stressed and haggard and the naïveté and zealotry of the younger members is very much in evidence.

I look forward to receiving your reply about responsibility for the clerics of Silverstream, soon.

With an assurance of prayers in this grace-filled season of Easter

+ Pat

Also of interest is that Dom Basil Mary (presumably the shorter monk) is wearing a black cowl (the garment symbolic of monastic profession).
At St Joseph de Clairval the monks wear a black habit but a white cowl (https://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2010/04/abbaye-saint-joseph-de-clairval.html?m=1#.ZGQDpobTWv4) which means that for a stay as superior supposedly for a year they’ve gone to the not inconsiderable expense of running him up a cowl which is unlikely to fit anyone else when he returns.
It’s also unlikely they had an old one lying around from anyone who’s left.
I think the business of appointing Basil prior is part of Silverstream being taken on by Clairval and Dom Basil will stay there.

‘Naïveté and zealotry of the younger members is very much in evidence..’ suggests +Pat you are fairly fixed in your hostility to Silverstream. A man joining a monastery needs zeal. Calling it zealotry gives this interior drive, this perseverance, needlessly negative connotations. A prior suggestion was they offer the New Mass in English, not even a Latin New Mass as oft happens in religious houses, suggests its biggest offence for you +Pat is the use of the 1962 missal, not the wrongdoing of its former Prior and co-founder (with the now exiled Dom Andersen) which incidentally didn’t rise to the level of something meriting prosecution.
You yourself have posted posted examples of far worse, places that were steeped in authoritarianism and sexual perversion by their very design, like those many religious operated places of detention and slavery or schools that basically institutionalised pedastry. Silverstream should restore Dom Benedict Andersen immediately, obviously. You unfortunately seem to strongly support the bullying attitude of the Vatican towards the 1962 missal, an attitude which means a closed, closing or even deconsecrated church or monastery is preferable to one offering what’s usually, if a bit misleadingly, called the Latin Mass. Instead of the subtle and balanced attitude of the late Pope Benedict, an attitude far closer to Sacrosanctum Concilium, calling as it did for Latin to retain primacy, which built on Veterum Sapientia of St John XXIII, some social media head the balls provide a pretext for nasty bullying that prefers to destroy rather than build. There needs to be some basic reality. Catholicism has been destroyed in Europe by the ‘spirit of V2’ which is not V2, but a weird presentism rooted in obsolete philosophies of the 1960s, that sees everything before the present orthodoxy as utterly flawed. Perhaps Silverstream should be encouraged towards offering both the 1962 missal and a conventual form of the New Mass, that is, using Latin and plainchant. Some Dominican houses do both even for public Masses. The way forward has to be blended and flexible.
Peace.

Why is Dom Benedict’s restoration to Silverstream Priory not obviously seem by others, including Fr. Tom D, Silverstream Priory and ‘SWAT’ team, Coffey, Purcell and Dunllea who initially investigated the matter?

I wonder if the issue of Dom Benedict Anderson receiving justice warrants all that is printed in the blog in relation to Silverstream.

.

To be clear, I think that occasionally turning the spotlight on Silverstream is important. There were, and possibly still are some shady things going on there.

However there are things said in connection with Silverstream that feel hectoring and unchristian. For instance, the blog’s apparent inability to refer to Elijah without calling him Porn Again Elijah.

When is Bro Elijah, or whatever his title is, ever going to be allowed to forget this lapse in judgement? Constantly referring to his past ‘sins’ is not Christian nor is it kind.

A man should be permitted to forget his past failings and not have them regularly brought into the light again, especially when bringing them into the light again appears to serve no other purposes than to titillate readers, embarrass a man and his community and certainly does nothing to gain justice for Dom Anderson.

How did Bro Elijah’s porn addiction get into the public domain? What was the source? This could only have come from an insider. Was it Dom Anderson who gave you this information and if so could Dom Anderson stand over its constant use to pillory a man whom he once called a brother? Does he feel that the blogs attempt to seek justice on his behalf warrants the singling out this unfortunate man in such a manner. That’s not just.

I do not know Elijah, he might be an unrepentant porn addicted man on the other hand he might be completely repentant. Who are we to judge?
What I do know is that if it were me, I’d be crushed and humiliated if I was to be aware that my name regularly appeared on this blog. Once again, I have to concede that I don’t know how Elijah might feel about his name on the blog. He might be totally unrepentant and laugh it off. Either way, we don’t know. But I would ask for a bit of Christian charity and request that if you need to mention him at all your might do so without the porn again title.

I, honestly believe that sometimes this blog forgets that the men ( it’s usually men) are human beings. Sure, call-out their hypocrisy but please don’t claim that you are acting in a Christian manner when you ridicule, humiliate and mock in the name of attaining justice for Dom Anderson or anyone else.

And just to head off the “hello Elijah comments, this is NOT ELIJAH

Kirby made Elijah’s porn addiction known to the whole community and to certain wealthy female visitors.

Elijah was only allowed access to the monastery computer in a room with an open door. The whole community was charged with watching him.

Your obsession with the Minks is deeply sinful. They surpass your “spirituality” any time. Go and spend some time with them without your bigotry, hatred and prejudice. But Pat, calling him Porn Again Elijah doesn’t allow him to become “Born Again”. We all have the ability to change. When I was younger I regularly watched porn, but that is no longer the case. I was able to wean myself off it.
You just seem to keep on with a person’s past sins. There seems no opportunity to change and grow in your eyes.
Thank God I don’t have you banging on about my past sins (that are in the past). I’ve been reminded of the poem If a child…
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice.
If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world.
How was your childhood/early adult life?

Actually what’s most interesting to me in the Elijah thing is the way the whole community and others knew about his little problem. I can’t believe that the motivation for this humiliation wasn’t sexual. This is, in my opinion, the reason this should be known because it shows the real rottenness at the heart of Silverstream: a monk being utterly humiliated rather than have his problem dealt with.
So actually he should be Humiliated Again by the Prior who Hears Voices from the Tabernacle Elijah.

Do you refer to Elijah as ‘Porn Again’ because he wilfully refuses to give up viewing such media (and how do you know?), or because you enjoy taking the piss out of him?
You’re a Christian priest, Pat. Answer honestly. And if it is because you enjoy taking the piss out of him, admit it, and repent. It won’t make you look weak; just human, like Elijah.

Martin Long told NCR in an email. “It is usual for a monastery to have a visitation at least every four years and, earlier this year, Silverstream had its first visitation as a Diocesan Institute of Consecrated Life.”
Who was Martin Long codding with his claim that the Silverstream visitation was just routine? Who assigned Purcell to the visitation? Were Dom Mark Kirby and Dom Benedict Andersen both incardinated into the Diocese of Meath? What lengths have Deenihan and Connell gone to to protect Purcell? Why is Purcell being protected and Andersen being punished?
Was the Silverstream visitation just a coincidence? Is Connell’s reward of a mitre after the scandal also a coincidence?
There is no smoke without fire. There is no hypocrisy without scandal.
Deenihan wants to get Silverstream off his hands and has his eyes on Cashel & Emly. Connell’s mitre suggests that Deenihan will also be rewarded. He probably has two to three years to have Silverstream standing on its own two feet as a “respectable” monastery.

Deenihan came across as very ambitious one, possibly a careerist. He would go an extra mile and nuke any prospective candidates in order to get that prize which is an Archbishopric role in Cashel or Armagh or Dublin.

He thrived on publicity/attention such as Aisling Murphy funeral.

Martin long is gone as he was pravda spokesperson for am outfit who specialises in denying crimes, OMERTA, 💰, problem with celibacy, back stabbing or gossiping which could be vicious at times.

We didn’t know RP was doing his double lives until much later. RP wasn’t protected at that time until he was exposed much later on this blog.

Its the quiet ones such as Gearoid Dullea now PP of ballinlough parish who could be potentially a candidate for Bishop job cos he covers his tracks so well. That’s why he’s the invisible one cos nobody was talking about him nor was O Connell.

Its important to inform the investors who put their money into that pet project of DM Kirby, think it was a director’s wife in paddy power re goings on etc. It would be advisable to inform her if necessary.

Their treatment of Anderson was nothing short of downright descipable cos it was pure retaliation for being a whistle blower. Perps corner was a disgusting piece of work by TD cos he’s a Bishop who approved it. He didn’t go an extra mile to protect the innocent ones.
The impression that I got was once anyone who became a priest, then they get compromised. It applies to Dom anderson who would say no to bishops who were in comprised positions.

I admire your efforts to question the situation at Silverstream and to highlight the oddities that go on there. However, I doubt if you will get any reply or any satisfaction from either Silverstream or Deenihan. I think they have longed worked out that they can just brazen it out, because they and nobody else is going to address the issues and concerns you raise. And, nobody else will either, not in Ireland nor in Rome. That’s just indicative of the arrogance of the RCC and its bishops and clergy. They know they can get away with things. Unless there is a legal, criminal or police element to it, and leverage can be brought there. But, it seems to me that there is little more that you can do to put pressure on Silverstream et al and see some movement. I think we just have to wait until the whole thing implodes of its own accord. Thats’s not defeatism, it’s just realism.

Silverstream is just f****d up place set up by and funded by American trads. I am amazed that somebody as liberal as Deenihan continues to tolerate Silverstream in his diocese. Deenihan has no affinity with the Old Rite. To the best of my knowledge he does not celebrate the liturgy in that manner.
The question of Elijah’s porn addiction is relevant if he is ever going to be ordained a priest. But you could be kinder +Pat.
A struggle with pornography is something you confess in a sacramental setting and not divulge to the whole community unless Elijah is woke and desperate for attention.
If Elijah told Kirby about his struggle in confession and if that is how Elijah’s difficulty came into the public domain it is possible that Kirby directly/indirectly violated the sacramental seal and that is very serious.

“Verily, I say unto you when you go out into the world take at least half a dozen tunics, and as many staffs as won’t burden an ass to the ground, because appearance matters, and is, indeed, everything. Looking the part is more important than being the part.
“And be sure that your tunics are cut from the finest cloth, and of many colours too, so that some can be worn in the morning, some at midday, and some for evening attire at dinner in the best houses.
“And be sure to bring with you many pairs of sandals, since all that shaking off dust from them in righteous judgement of others will wear them out the quicker.
“Last but not least, bring with you the deepest of purses, and collect mammon where you will, for it is, verily, money that makes the world go round, at least for my disciples. This is how the world will know that you are mine, and that I am in the world and of the world, as you all are. And the world will then know that you all ‘get it’, as I ‘get it’. “

Catholic obsession with Masturbation is so passé and tedious – the human person is hyper sexual and stimulated by variety which in turn increases the secretion of oxytocin and endorphins – every human being has masturbated and does masturbate – from peasant to pope, from king to pauper.
The error isn’t repeat masturbation (for everyone masturbates) but the faux confession of something which isn’t sinful but entirely natural and harmless – except within a Catholic milieu (following Aquinas) Onanism is judged more incriminating than incest or bestiality which is clearly just poppy cock and fallacious.
Once a persons masturbatory habits are in the public not private domain the poor bastard is screwed and subject to opprobrium and ridicule whereas in truth masturbation is like sneezing or enjoying an extra scoop of ice cream.
Catholic moral theology needs to grow up and mature especially regarding masturbation (one of lives natural pleasures) and anal sex, infinitely more pleasurable than vaginal and as natural as the air we breathe.
