O’BRIEN RIP – ROBSON OF DUNKELD – BYRNE OF HEXHAM AND NEWCASTLE – CHRISTOPHER MORRIS ET AL……

MC COY LEFT AND BYRNE RIGHT

In the last few days, I have been contacted by a number of UK media and journalists with regard to the Bobby Byrne scandal in Hexham and Newcastle.

The story has hit the mainstream media, and a number of very capable hacks are digging and digging deep.

It seems to me that the scandal is set to deepen and draw in other senior and junior clerics.

Was the UK nuncio Gugerotti determined to have the episcopal heads of STEPHEN ROBSON of DUNKELD and ROBERT BYRNE of Hexham and Newcastle before he left The UK to take up a job in the Roman Curia?

They are both gone !!!

ROBSON

The relationship would see Keith “Bunny” O’Brien fulfil his promise to Stephen “Petal” Robson, to be the auxiliary bishop of Edinburgh.

Bunny O’Brien fulfilled his promises by making Stephen Petal Robson an auxiliary bishop, much to the annoyance of Mike Regan, the Cathedral Administrator. Mike was so annoyed by Bunny O’Brien’s broken promise of a bishopric that not only did he hide Petal’s crozier and mitre just before the ordination Mass but he was one of the four ex partners who brought Cardinal Bunny O’Brien down before Mike himself passed away of ………..

MIKE REGAN

The minute O’Brien was exposed, Pettal Robson cut him off as quickly as Cushley was to banish Petal to Dunkeld at the first opportunity.

Robson became close to seminarian Christopher Morris, recently ordained by Bishop Holy Toaly for Motherwell.

Christopher Morris had been expelled from seminary , but Stephen Robson’s assistance finished his studies.

When Christopher Morris was in Oscott seminary, Bishop Robson visited him there.

On those visits, Robson stayed with Robert Byrne, who was the auxiliary bishop of Birmingham.

We have not heard the end of this saga.

It seems that there are wheels within wheels, and the English and Scottish bishops are preparing themselves for a lot more in-flight turbulence 😞

What a little network ! And how prissly offended that Regan chap must have been not to get a mitre, and Robson getting it in his place, for him to get together with others and nix O’Brien. Nothing is as offended or vicious as a queen who has been passed over ! Is Regan dead now ? The others who colluded with him, where are they ? Strange that they didn’t bother to do anything for years until one of them, at least, felt aggrieved and hurt and thought he’d get his revenge. Not exactly noble. Anyhow, O’Brien had it coming for him and he was a hypocrite, classic culture wars warrior transferring all his own sexuality frustrations and lies in to bashing others. What a mess. And to think that the ordinary Joe and Josephine Soap in the pew looked up to these people. Well, they did. Probably not now.

At the end of the day the priest/Bishop relationship is a glorified rentboy scheme. The “good” Boyz are ordained regardless of suitability for ministry. No wonder it’s all gone t*** up in the RCC.

Yes. + Pat, E&W and Scottish bishops will have to buckle up and get out their sick bags, because the ride looks as though it is going to be bumpy and turbulent. The Byrne / H&N trouble looks as though it consists of layers and layers of scandal and questionable behaviour, which might be hard to unpick, but investigations will reveal the truth, and it will not be pretty. As far as I can make out, there are distinct matters at stake. Firstly, Byrne’s managerial ability in dealing with some difficult issues, in particularly issues of safeguarding, and his bad, questionable and unwise decisions in that area. Secondly, Byrne’s own personal life, and an accusation – seemingly historical, from a priest – of some inappropriateness that has found its way to the police (whether they action it or not remains to be seen) and which also has been referred to Rome (which will have a different standard of evidence on judgement). There will be bit players along the way, from within and without the diocese, who will have involvement in both these matters which confront H&N and Byrne. In addition, there are questions to be asked about Byrne’s elevation to auxiliary bishop and then diocesan bishop, and who knew what and when, in particular about the accusation that has been made against him, but also in the wider sense of his ability, or lack of it. Everyone is now asking, as they asked at the time, why has Byrne been made a bishop ? So, many questions of judgement to be answered by, amongst others, the Nuncio, the Vatican, and those bishops in E&W who were pushing Byrne’s candidacy. Another issue is, of course, what is happening to Byrne at present ? Where is he ? This is pertinent because if there are safeguarding issues and concerns on various levels about him, then the wisest and appropriate thing in the meantime would be for him to be removed from any contact, at the very least, with vulnerable or young people. This would, in my mind, preclude any lodging in a parish, Oratory house, or anywhere he would come in to contact with vulnerable and young people. In this country and abroad. I think an assurance should be given by the Church authorities that this is the case. Perhaps you should write to + McMahon and ask for an assurance that this is the case, + Pat ?

I wonder did Benedict, following his visit to the Oratory and Newman’s canonisation, push for an Oratorian to be made a bishop ? Not sure of the timeline, but sounds plausible.

Interesting connection here: https://www.facebook.com/EdinburghRCdiocese/posts/monsignor-regans-requiem-mass-monsignor-michael-regans-life-was-built-upon-three/927405870663851/. Mgr Michael Regan’s funeral mass pictures. The priest who turned over O’Brien after he was passed over for a bishops’ mitre. It was always spun that he and a few other priests were upset about O’Brien’s hypocrisy especially about sexuality, and were acting out of conscience and integrity, but maybe it was really just frustrated ambition, wounded pride, and a desire to get even for a promise seemingly broken? And, who is there in the front row, bold as brass ? Dean Kennedy. It’s interesting that he’s not concelebrating, perhaps in one of his suspended animation phases, but definitely in clericals and definitely not being shy or retiring. What is the connection between Regan and Kennedy ? Two deans, or ex-deans, from the same pod ?

Kennedy is right behind the family in the second row; and he’s carrying the coffin out of the church. Very close connections there. What close connections ? How come ? You couldn’t make it up !

Can someone just dowload the pics and send them to Pat, rather than complicated instructions on how to access them.

Yes, second row seating behind the family, coffins bearer…….these things speak of a closeness to Regan and to the family. Maybe Order of Malta ? Whatever, Kennedy is not shy about appearing at a time when to be honest he was under a cloud, and isn’t concelebrating because he’s not allowed to. He was definitely sending out signals of defiance at this funeral. Cushykins can’t have failed to notice him and to know who he was and what his story is.

More turbulence should include ‘ #me too’, those targeted female parishioners, groomed by ‘celibates’, to enable clerical fornication and adultery, who after they have had had their fill, are ‘moved on’ and, carry on regardless. It looks impossible to square the circle of sexual abuse in the RCC.

I am astounded to read the dreadful comments here about Bishop Stephen Robson, who is ill and has resigned because of that illness – although my own suspicion is that, perhaps, too, he has had enough of Pope Francis the First (and we sincerely pray, the Last).
I resist speculating when I hear news of possible scandal and I try to contact the person, priest or bishop concerned, to ascertain the facts. Hence I can say that, as one of the very few (probably only, for the most part/for quite some time) bishop to afford me the courtesy of a reply to my communications, Bishop Robson has merely tried to be a friend to Christopher Morris because he believed that he was a victim of false allegations or similar sob story. I have no problem believing that, not least because I did the same thing.
Now, though, I wouldn’t believe Christopher Morris if he told me there had been claims of a pandemic this past two/three years. However, that was not always the case. When he phoned me, after I lodged a cause for concern at the Scots College in Rome, I thought butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. Sincerity writ large. A confession that he had been wrong to engage in the “gay lifestyle” (excuse the euphemism) and that he would change his ways in the future. I believed him. Silly me. It’s a wonder I’ve not featured in a documentary alongside the many other numpties who have been conned out of house and home by promises of jam tomorrow in some madcap money-making scheme.
So, leave off tormenting Bishop Robson. He is not only the only Bishop in Scotland who shows courtesy by replying to correspondents, but he is also the only senior churchman to show tolerance and understanding of those of us who adhere to the authentic Catholic Faith and liturgy. Our Lady of Lourdes, Health of the Sick, pray for him…

Thirty years ago, I asked the then Archbishop O’Brien to arrange appropriate residential care support for an uncle of mine who had retired from the priesthood after more than 50 years and who was unwell and unable to live alone. My request to him arose after attempts to secure support by other means had been fruitless over many months. As soon as Archbishop O’Brien was conversant with the details, he resolved the request within days. Thanks to that intervention, my uncle spent the final year of his life in a peaceful care setting.
Notwithstanding all of Archbishop O’Brien’s faults and failings and the horrific damage inflicted on so many people, he helped my family to secure care and dignity for a dying relative.

POPE’S COMMENTS ON ABUSE ARE NOT CREDIBLE : STATEMENT BY BISHOP ACCOUNTABILITY.ORG
Vatican City.
BishopAccountability.org [Waltham MA]
By Anne Barrett Doyle
January 26, 2023.
“In an exclusive interview published today by the Associated Press, Pope Francis urges transparency around abuse cases and says that church leaders must speak out more about abuse of vulnerable adults. The Pope says that after he discredited victims in Chile in 2018, “a bomb went off” in his head and he had a “conversion” moment, when he “saw the corruption of many bishops in this.” At the end of today’s AP article, the Pope is quoted as saying that “with transparency comes a very nice thing, which is shame. Shame is a grace.” “On all of these points, Pope Francis is not credible. For the sake of the Church, the Pope would do well to remind himself that transparency brings other graces too: validation of victims, alleviation of their anguish, advancement of justice, accountability of Church leaders, and, just possibly, restored trust in the Church itself.”
