LETTER TO NUNCIO RE PHONSIE AND PURCELL.

Most Rev’d Jude T. Okolo
Titular Archbishop of Novica
Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Ireland
The Apostolic Nunciature
183 Navan Road, Dublin 7

November 2, 2021.

Ref. Most Rev’d Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan / Dom Richard Purcell, OCSO.

Via e-mail and post.

Your Excellency,

Respectfully, I direct your attention to my letter dated November 1, 2021, addressed to Most Rev’d Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, Ordinarius, Dioecesis Vaterfordiensis et Lismoriensis. The said letter is copied to you as the representative of the Apostolic See on the island of Ireland.

Objectively, the failure of Bishop Cullinan to preventively suspend by Decree, the priestly faculties of Dom Richard Purcell, OCSO, Abbas et Ordinarius of Mount Melleray Abbey in his canonical territory is a grave scandal. It is indubitable that the incumbent of Vaterfordiensis et Lismoriensis is deliberately failing to exercise his authority for the greater good of his diocese, for reasons that at the time of this writing, remain, wholly arcane.

May, I respectfully request that my letter of November 1, 2021 be assigned a protocol number and for copies of same to be consigned to the Secretariat of State via the diplomatic pouch for consideration by the following Dicasteries:

1) The Congregation for Bishops with a note that the pertinacious attitude of Bishop Cullinan in this matter is a source of outrage; and,

2) The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, with a note apprising that the Abbot General of the Cistercians, Rt. Rev’d, Dom Eamon Fitzgerald, OCSO, has acknowledged as true, and that that it was known to him; that Dom Richard Purcell had consensual anal sex with a priest (the then Fr. Neil Dargan) at Mount St. Joseph Abbey, Roscrea (Dioecesis Laoniensis), and apprise the Dicastery, this is a scandal that needs to be addressed, and, which will not be ameliorated by deliberate “inaction”.

With prayerful best wishes,

+Patrick Buckley

PAT SAYS

Readers aay tgat my letters will not be acted upon.

That is not the point.

Those of us involved in this matter knew perfectly well how the Church works, how things are ignored and how things are covered up.

When embarking on a long and difficult mission one is under no illusion.

However, one very important thing to do is to create a paper trail.

In this way people cannot say that they did not know about matters or that no one drew it to their attention.

Aslo, in Church matters, things do not change until the civil authorities are involved.

Another reason the paper trail is so important.

Houses are built a brick at a time.

As you say Pat these letters are simply binned. They’ve no intention of doing anything. Rome itself is a hotbed of homosexuality. They feel reassured that police are not interested in what “consenting adults” do.
They also know that as long as you have people like Albert Gubay to keep them on the gravy train then they’ve no need to worry. The little old ladies who are deaf mute when it comes to this stuff will continue to go into the churches and donate every time.
A pity these hypocrites weren’t as tolerant of the thousands of women forced into hell holes as slaves and treated worse than animals by filthy perverted nuns. These bitches are still operating real estate worth millions on this little island and nobody has the balls to deal with them .

I hope you’re not in too much pain, don’t bother, it’s just oul Granny Grammar boring us all again with her pedantic corrections. Funny she was missing in action yesterday when she could have had a field day with her unwanted corrections. But of course she never comments on her friends, funny that don’t you think?😏

Yeah and that’s what drives them mad about it because they can’t go ‘Nobody told us, how terrible, if we’d known about it we’d have done something about it!’

Keep up the pressure, + Pat. They may well ignore you, but when the edifice does crumble, at least you / we can say that we told you so, and you still refused to do anything. That will only serve to compound their guilt and responsibility.
Just a couple of other strands from yesterday:
Mervyn Tower – yes, he had an eye for the good looking, and perhaps a tendency to favouritism, perhaps even he wore white socks (!), but these things pale in to insignificance compared to his genial, kind, engaging and good influence on those he taught and helped to form. He’s essentially a good man, and has done a great deal of good in his ministry, and continues to do so. I just hope that he doesn’t become a whipping dog for this blog, because that really would be a grave injustice. I hope others will be able to join me in ensuring that a balanced view of him is represented.
FSSP – This Jackson guy in the USA, recently arrested for child pornography and possibly facing up to 21 years in prison. The case will wend its way through the process. In the meantime, it just sticks in the craw the way in which the FSSP continually refer to him as ‘Father’ in their statements, in such unctuous, reverential terms. It just remind me of the idiotic notion that they, and many priests have, that they stand exceptionally above everything because of their priesthood and their ontological difference compared to the rest of humanity ! So, I guess they believe, that whatever he has done, he is still ‘Father’, still a priest, and should be above any usual judgement that is habitually made on someone who has been arrested and accused of such vile behaviour. Will they still refer to him as ‘Father’ when he’s convicted and in prison ? I suggest they just refer to him as ‘Jackson’ from now on.

I understood that when a priest was placed on administrative leave, they were not to wear clericals or present themselves as priests?

Like

Our priest never wears his clericals, he is clearly ashamed to be seen in them. Yet near took the arm of me when I handed him a thank you gift for officiating my wedding.

Like

I always wear clerical dress for two specific reasons

1. To give witness.

2. To let people know I am there if they need me.

Why do you not wear the clerical black +Pat? It always seems to be the Protestant grey

10.21am I am talking about lay male trolls you idiot. Creating a womens name to hide behind ie Bridget, Maureen etc etc

So when you see a female name you automatically assume it is a male troll. You were bottle fed, weren’t you.

I am in favour of clerical dress so we can clearly identify them. I think it should be mandatory at all times. Such a policy would make visiting The Boilerhouse difficult and other well-known hangouts for clergy. The cassock is best as it is far too easy to slip the white bit of plastic out of a clerical shirt and look like an off duty bouncer.

Like

I see nothing wrong with a priest not wearing clerical dress on his day off.

Personally, I am never off duty as a priest. It’s a vocation, not a job.

Like

Did our Lord take a “day off” from the cross? It’s either a vocation, a sacred calling, or nothing.

Bishop Pat you are a good man. Always available for duty which most of the others lack. My local priest is that busy flexing his biceps and working out in the gym for us ‘parasites’.

I am old school that way. Priests available 24/7. No ridiculous “surgery hours”.

Our priest lives a life of luxury. Drives a Maserati, is away more than 3 times a year (don’t tell Maureen), refuses to live with his parishioners, is always at spa breaks, getting his eyebrows done, and is regularly seen eating out at fancy restaurants and drinking champagne. So much for a vocation bishop pat. This priest seems to be in it for the cash.

Like

No priest anywhere has a Maserati. When making stuff up, don’t stretch credibility to breaking point.

Like

Your concept of luxury is different to mine. The Maserati is 20 years old. I can keep it running only because my brother in law is a mechanic. Out of the 3 times I am away each year, 2 of them are time spent with my aged parents – hardly a holiday. The other time I go to a private apartment in Italy owned by my sister. I do not refuse to live with my parishioners. I see no reason to do so. I have my parochial house and they have their own homes. I do not go on spa breaks or get my eyebrows done. There are no fancy restaurants in the bog village in which I live nor does the local sell champagne. It’s true that the Spar sometimes has sparkling wine on offer and when it’s on offer I buy a couple of bottles. I trained as a teacher and could earn far more in teaching than as a priest. So I am not in it for the cash.

It is noteworthy that this is the first occasion (to the best of my knowledge) that you have requested one of your letters to be assigned a protocol number and to be consigned to the Secretariat of State in the diplomatic pouch. You are in receipt of advice from an individual(s) who have first-hand knowledge of the workings of the Nunciatures. As John Lynam correctly remarks at 10.34 p.m., your letter will be ignored, however, he incorrectly remarks that it will be binned. The letter will be sent to the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. If a file does not exist on Abbot Purcell, one will be opened, and if a file is already in existence your letter will be noted but not actioned and added to Purcell’s file.

Father Hickland didn’t take too kindly to people writing on your blog about their concerns, and wants any of us with concerns regarding him or his service to address him directly Pat. I personally wouldn’t have the confidence to address him.

People usually want people to use the ‘proper channels’ because they control the proper channels. Other ways get better results and give the clergy the clear message that there days of lording it are over.

10.37: Like many priests I know: always available, especially if you have a nursing home in your parish. We are called at all hours..and if you are in a parish with a huge elderly constituency, they too often call if very unwell or anxious during the night. Yes, 24/7 is the calling but not always possible particularly when you are on your own in a parish…And we are, as priests, only human at the end of the day: we will fail but let us not pile guilt in ourselves. God is with us.

Like

Pat if there is anything in what you are saying with some time, rather than go to Bishop’s and Archbishops with your claims, go to the tabloid newspapers. If they think there is something in what you say they will have a field day. If they think there is nothing in what you say, give it a rest.

Like

I think the days of newspapers being interested are over. We all know that priests are kinky hypocrites and this is no longer news.

Like

I completely agree that the clerical culture breeds an obsession with never going into writing or avoiding a paper trail – it’s the hallmark of a criminal and immoral organisation.
Which is why Elsie and Nursies exposure at IICSA was so delicious because emails were released of Westminster’s internal email exchanges in which a victim of child abuse was maligned and rubbished and clearly Elsie colluded in that.
He must be so pissed this came out into the light!!
Nursies was exquisite because he was skewered by the lady barrister who walked him into the awful and cringing admission that he didn’t in fact write a letter to a victim of child abuse but his insurers or lawyers did!! O God that was both awful and yet delicious to see him squirm.
In a similar vein I enjoy immensely Bishop Pats letters and his cc’ing all the relevant parties – OMG how they must loathe this and despise him for this due diligence and holding to account.
I know that Elsie shredded loads of paperwork before he left Brum for Westminster and I imagine this is standard ecclesiastical practice- I imagine the Pope has done this too.
It’s the Hear No Evil – See no Evil strategy beloved of all criminal enterprises!!
Senior clergy in Brum get v excited if on the day a priest is convicted for child abuse or a scandal hits the press they love it when the news is dominated say by 9/11 or some major political story – showing no sense of compassion for victims of a terror attack just delirious delight that it was a good day to bury bad news isn’t that evil?

+Pat, if you accused me on your blog of having anal sex in any monastery kitchen with an abbot or any form of homosexual activity and it was not true, I would go to a solicitor. I would have them to write you with the demand that you immediately remove the offending blog posting and make a public apology. If you refused, I would have my solicitor obtain an opinion from a barrister. If the opinion was favourable, I would then write you again asking you to remove the offending blog posting. If you again refused and persisted in spreading a falsehood, then, I would have my legal team issue proceedings. I would have you paying my costs until your dying breath. I would stop at nothing to vindicate my good name.

It seems extraordinary that Purcell and Dargan have not taken the legal route because they would have the support and financial backing of the Church, so the cost of proceedings would not be an issue, because so many people absolutely hate you “Buckley”. So what you are writing about Purcell and Dargan is true. It makes me feel sad for Mt. Melleray.

Bill Mulvihill will soon be making an appearance on the blog whenever he decides to surface. He will probably be defending the indefensible by praising his “friend” Dargan. From memory Mulvihill has never denied (I think) the allegations that you have made about Dargan. He attempts to deflect from them that he has never denied them.

I don’t think there is a major beef with Mervyn Towers on this blog – and no major hanging offence to be blatantly gay and flirtatious with younger clergy or seminarian – I don’t know if he’s an active homosexual and he doesn’t appear to be a nasty gay (as many are in Brum) but his favouritism and especially effete manner conveys that the priesthood is well and truly a gay profession and he knows next to nothing about marriage and attraction to the fairer sex but no doubt gives marriage instruction and upholds the sanctity of an institution – which can only lead one to conclude who is he kidding.
Also clerical favouritism is divisive – I saw him in Lourdes whispering and bitching with a younger priest – they looked like two loved up teenagers and were inseparable- v unedifying but easy to read.

Like

Mervyn had a passion for the Old Testament and was a brilliant teacher. However, I disagree that his favouritism towards handsome seminarians was harmless and paled into insignificance compared to his gifts.

Imagine you were a young 18-year-old seminarian with no previous exposure to homosexuality, and it was your first time away from home. You saw some of your classmates picked out by him just because they were good-looking. They were granted special favours such as using his phone in his study when the rest of us had to use a call box. DBLs in his room on Sunday’s. They were taken out for birthday meals and fed tit-bits of college gossip. It made the rest of those who were not “chosen” feel inferior. A bit like being the last person selected to play for the school football team! It also created a veneer of arrogance among the “chosen” who had no fear of not being admitted to candidacy or the lesser ministries.

Mervyn’s boys’ had a ‘golden ticket’, which they knew would ease their progression. Mark Crisp, whilst briefly a student at Oscott, was also one of his favourites! So yes, great teacher, but a poor and biased formator whose actions caused more than minor upset to those not born with Holywood looks. Did his guiding hand do them any good in the long term? I know that four of his boys left the priesthood shortly after ordination.

McKinney as Rector should have called him out on his blatant favouritism. The rest of the faculty just turned a blind eye and laughed it off as part of his “colourful character”, and to use a Mervyism, it was” all part of the rich tapestry of life”.

Scroll to 38:45 so to watch Neil Dargan “tell” the whole world “his truth”. Dargan is clearly a tortured man, however, I have little sympathy for him because he is complicit in a cover-up. His self-serving narrative probably for his own engorgement detracts from the people who found the courage to share what is a very tragic story. If Dargan is prepared to keep “silent” about Purcell, would he be prepared to keep “silent” (today) if he knew about a past sexual assault on a child by a monk at Mount St. Joseph Abbey or a staff member at the Cistercian College that was being prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions?

I think we would all adopt a similar approach if we were contemplating the issuance of proceedings against the “incumbent of Larne”, to use that witty phrase that we saw yesterday. It seems that “incumbent of Larne” only publishes on his blog any allegations that are supported by paperwork. I was sceptical when the allegations about Purcell first surfaced on this blog. I will admit that I thought Buckley was stirring the pot to generate publicity for his blog. I was wrong.

The Charity bequeathed by Albert Gubay seems to be protected from the grasping hands of prelates both in Ireland and Great Britain as it is not money left to the Church but to the Charity to be run by a trust company at its discretion. I say “seems” as the details have not been published yet. One of the possible recipients is “amateur sport” which I think is possibly as rare today as holiness in the presbytery. The late Albert must have been a champion of lost causes. May God have mercy on all our souls.

Gubay’s mother was a native of Leixlip and he paid for the renovation of the Church there. He had an association with dioceses such as Cardiff, Wrexham, Shrewsbury and Northampton during his lifetime for some strange reason. He gave those dioceses millions over the years.

I was reading an article in ‘History Today’ entitled ‘The Perils of Piety’, which is about the great self-sacrifice, fasting and abstince of bishops in times past. How very different it is for our own dear queens.
“Of course, the truly saintly bishop would prioritise the health of his soul over that of his body. Thomas Becket’s doctor urged him to give up celibacy for the sake of his health, but the saint disregarded the physician’s advice.
Archbishop Thomas of York (1108-14) also refused to comply with his doctors’ prescription of sexual intercourse. Even when his friends smuggled a suitable woman into his household, he continued to insist that he would die a virgin. Similar stories circulated about Continental prelates.
One French bishop vehemently asserted that he could not be chaste and had not been so prior to his election as bishop. After his consecration, he felt obliged to remain celibate and within a month ‘his genital organs swelled up with an immeasurable flatulence’. Like Thomas of York, he was advised to ‘take a woman to himself’ but refused, preferring to gain eternal life than to dishonour his office. The swelling grew worse and within days he was dead.”

Rawhide Purcell will not instruct any solicitor to issue a letter with respect to what has appeared on Pat Buckley’s blog. To do so would add legitimately to the allegations made by +Pat. The last person to try that was Bishop John Keenan of the Diocese of Paisley, Scotland. Buckley replied by publishing the letter and the various exchanges between Keenan’s solicitor. It was a real spectacle.

A solicitor’s letter is worthless unless you’ve got the pockets and resolve to see through the threat. A letter would cost you at least £600 – £1000 plus VAT. Bishop Pat is a “man of straw”, i.e. he has no assets. The first rule of litigation is don’t litigate, and if you do, then go after the man with the deepest pockets.

I don’t think Purcell would want to take on the bold Patsy he’s the boy that would see it through, As mentioned above Keenan wasn’t long in drawing in his horns when he tried the threat of legal action. If Purcell was going to go down that road he’d have done it by now..
