A THREE MONKEY MAN GETS TUAM.

The least known and least interesting creature among the generally uninteresting Irish Roman Catholic bishops – Francie Duffy – has been made the RC archbishop of Tuam by the RC bishop of Rome.

He is a former teacher and school principal with little or no parish experience.

As a Kilmore priest, he is another protégé of Sean The Wounded Healer Brady.

A safe man – famous for not thinking, not speaking, and not acting.

THREE INDIGNANT IRISH BISHOPS THIS MORNING.

1. FINTONENSIS MONAHANIBUS

Fintan,  the former secretary to Neary, wanted Tuam more than Snowwhite wanted to sleep with Dopey.

I’m told that he is beside himself with anger and actually flung his pectoral cross at his picture of Greasy Franki screaming VAFFANCULO.

In the Vatican’s eyes Fintan has been seriously damaged by letters from Tuam priests saying they would not accept him and by his handling of the case of one of his priests choking the turkey at Salthill and the infamous affair between 23 second Ger and Vonnie.

In the Congregation for the Clergy in Rome they still joke about Fintan’s handling of Vonnie and Ride.

The Vatican is also unimpressed by his friendship with Dick Purcell.

2. KEVINI HOMOPHOBIAENSIS DORENSIS

There was no way Pro Gay Francis was going to promote Doran after he publicly said that being gay was like being Downs Syndrome.

Francis regarded that as an insult to both the Gay and Downs communities.

Doran did say to an Elphin priest yesterday: “On the good side I will avoid all the packing and moving at 68”.

3. BRENDANISIMUS LEAHIENSIS

Leahy is disappointed but not as disappointed as he was when Farrell got Dublin.

And the good thing about Leahy is that he can always take refuge in a good theology book while he is licking his wounds at his cosy home in Stab City.

AND THEN THERE’S RICHARD BENNET GIBBONS

And then there’s poor Richard Bennet Gibbons PP who fancied himself to replace Neary.

But Richard annoyed Francis by fussing over him at Knock.

And Francis is not impressed with priests who wear black water silk fascias with their cassocks. Looks far too ambitious.

But a Cloyne priest says that Gibbons is now hoping to replace Duffy in Ardagh?

In the meantime he has Lola and Millie to comfort him.

We just get bland, unremarkable bishops now, who are not known to be saintly, brainy, dynamic or orators. They basically see themselves as upgraded PPs and are not leaders. What is the point of them and why do we have so many of them? The only qualification seems to be years of working at a desk doing a job a lay person should have done.
Has any Irish bishop in the last 20 years said, done or written anything interesting?
Though maybe these humble invisible men are an improvement on the old style bishops such as Casey, Cackle etc who presided over massive abuse, decline, loss of faith and huge social change.

No boats will be rocked by Archbishop Duffy. The archdiocese of Tuam can go back to sleep. It’s business as usual.

The photo of Duffy at his episcopal ordination on the Irish Independent website is interesting. Look who is behind him- Michael Router. Clearly a friend, if so close on that occasion. What’s going on here? Are all these guys part of the Wounded Healers clique? If so, it suggests Amy Tits has no clout and Seanie Boy is still pulling all the strings when it comes to appointments.

Wounded healer’s fingerprints all over Tuam and aux in Armagh. Sean is doing what Worlock did to the English Church. A total scandal.

Pat @ 11.36am You are on the ball mate. Joey Piggy Gray was indeed the head of the Cavan Mafia in Brum and only had time for Cavan clergy there. Seamus was his blue eyed boy before Seamus died young RIP. This was before piggy cleared off to his sty in Shrewsbury.

Like

Yes I remember Gray as Auxiliary in Liverpool. It was a staging post for Shrewsbury. Horrible little man, a user. Brum couldn’t wait to get rid and Liverpool too.

Like

@11.41am You are right. Worlock’s legacy on the English & Welsh Chirch is yer man now in Westmimster.

Like

Yes, Nichols was Worlock’s blue eyed boy. The blue eyed boys have now the best positions and parishes. Especially the ones who have spent their years outside of said dioceses.

Like

Would it not be better for a New Bishop to come from that Diocese who knows the Clergy , people , problems e.t.c?

Like

Obviously there were no suitable priests in the archdiocese of Tuam, so once again Cavan was sent for. That county is a school of priestly holiness.

Having a bishop native to the diocese is no guarantee of success. Clogher is a great example……..local bishops yet zero vision or leadership.

The permanent deacon is intolerable.

Like

As a poster said yesterday the ‘Cavan Mafia’. This appointment has Sean Brady stamped all over it. He is still a Cardinal and he still has influence in Rome and especially over the derry dick womble in Ara Coeli.

Like

Sean has Router going up to him regular with the gossip on Eamon and what he is up to in Armacha. There is still a Cavan snitch in Armagh. The Brady bunch. Big Sean is pushing Router for D&C.

Like

In Clogher Pat, you always seem to know the score, the next bishop of Clogher is Bishop McPhillips. The clergy know it but hate the thought. The perm deacon in Enniskillen ex teacher thinks he is the Bishop.

Like

Joe screwed it up closing parishes when Adminstrator in Clogher. The power went to his head. The permanent deacon in Enniskillen is power mad also, a total gobshite. If the Fathers want someone to undermine them and be the PP instead of them get yourself a permanent deacon. Permanent pain in the ass. If I was replacing that ecumenical dick pp in Enniskillen the deacon would have to go too.

I have met the newly appointed Archbishop twice and was underwhelmed on both occasions. He is a surly and gruff individual with all the personal warmth of an ice cube.
Thank heavens he’s going to another unimportant diocese.
Pity Doran didn’t get the gig, he’d at least generate a headline or two and liven things up wheras Duffy will preside over the quiet demise of Tuam.
Nothing changes really. The deck chairs are being rearranged on the Titanic.

Like

9.10: At least he expressed good wishes and prayers, which you, Pat, haven’t done. You are so spiritually defunct. You only profess to believe in Jesus, your life being very removed from his heart and mind. Sad really. You are capable of so much more. Why do you try to bring every bishop down? Why?

Like

If, as yesterday’s appointment suggests, there is a ‘Cavan mafia’ then the logical consequence of that – and something already widely believed by many priests in Down and Connor – is Michael Router will become the next Bishop of Down and Connor.
By then he’ll be familiar with the Northern social and political system, in particular the education system, and be ready to move to Belfast.
He is already assisting in the pastoral governance of the ever-vacant Dromore which must increase the likelihood of his appointment to Down and Connor.

Does anyone know what happened to Sean Mawn he was or is a priest from Cavan?

What do clergy in Cavan think of Cardinal Brady?

Interview with Brady in The Greatest Catholics in the World was superb – author boxed Brady in and when suggested that his careerism and ambition played a role in his egregious role in silencing victims of child abuse an ice cold mist or fog descended and the interview came to an abrupt end – said everything you need to know about Brady.

Brady has hung into his clerical power like a drowning man clinging to a raft – this much I know when he shuffles of his mortal coil history will make its judgement and history can be a bitch.

Like

I met Seamus Hegarty once and he was fecking scary – scared the bejesus out of me – mad wild scare and weird clerical beast – like he loved the church but didn’t much care for God or human beings unless you were a priest and gave the impression that he wouldn’t cover things up but he’d dig the grave so deep they’d never even find the hole.
Runs shivers down my spine!!

Like

Hegarty and those eyes would go through straight through you. Boyce was another cover up merchant but Seamus played the dementia card in the end over abuse. What gets me with Seamus being a Pioneer was when someone broke into his pad in Derry they stole a whole pile of booze from his bedroom??? Maybe it was the dementia.

Such horrible cynicism from so many disgruntled clerics. Probably all passed over…not a positive word of encouragement. Of course they’re all wonder workers in their parishes……Indeed.

Two new canons for Birmingham today – it’s like a mafia ceremony and their being made made men – less capo more canons – mind you they are proven men – proven to be as thick as thieves and promise to serve the chapter their reward their 30 pieces of silver.
One word to the newly appointed canons – what did you know about Joe Quigley? And how much money is in the Johnson fund?

Like

I know, they will be preening themselves and thinking that finally they have ‘arrived’. But, who cares ? Does anybody ever refuse to take the canon / monsignor title / status when it is offered ? Probably not. It’s the only way these clergy can feel good about themselves, with clerical gongs. They have lost respect, trust and their integrity when viewed by the rest of the world. They are laughed at, avoided, shunned and viewed as suspicious. They only have themselves to blame. So, I guess we should be kind and allow them a little bit of schmoozing and self-congratulation. Poor, sad things.

Like

Remember, the Johnson Fund is a grant, not a right. It depends on the munificence and generosity of the trustees, and there is no right to it. So, you have to keep in with them, play the game, keep your nose clean. It’s another way of tying priests to the apron strings on the diocese and archbishop. It can refused. It can be taken away. It’s all about control, no matter how they dress it up. It gives some people in the archdiocese a lot of power and influence over the priests.

Like

Ah yeah I don’t begrudge them a little bit of delusional status – as I say it’s like the Mafia isn’t it – the bishop knows he can rely on them to cover up, grass on other clergy, dig the grave of the body they are going to bury knowing that they will be rewarded if not in the next world definitely in this one.
I read once that the chapter is where the grubby little secrets are kept and belonging to a chapter means your a member of an exclusive diocesan club.
Mind you I don’t rate the physical health of the two Brum Canons being inducted today and I imagine part of the package is a cathedral funeral with all the trimmings and trappings which may come sooner than later!!!

For those who don’t know what it is, the sem course was/is a two year non-degree philosophy and English course taught to seminarians whose Leaving Cert/A Level grades were too low even to meet the not exactly onerous requirements of Maynooth University.
Paul Prior and Andrew McCarthy (both of whom were mentioned here recently) did the sem course. In the old days, up to the early 70s, such academically weak candidates were not admitted to Maynooth

Monsignor – you can wear the gear anywhere. Canon is only supposed to wear his choir dress within the diocese and when the chapter gathers.

Like

Given that you now have to be drawing a pension to attain the title of monsignor or have a high position within the Roman Curia – most dioceses have to use the canon title to recognise ambitious priests. Most of the US dioceses do not have chapters, so they cannot single out clergy for merit. Who was the bishop who refused to award the title, saying, “I give one priest purple and turn 99 red with rage.”

Ah yeah a lot of sucking up (probably sucking off too) of Johnson Trustee clergy – several million in the fund – Wilcox ran it like it was his own cash and could be benevolent or mean depending on his mental state which was pretty reliably haywire.
One of the Canons being done today is a big gun in the Johnson find – they have an especially strong hold over sick clergy who are behoven to them but step out of line and you could find the funding refused or declined.
Do other dioceses have a similar set up I wonder?
Clergy power and money – who knew?

Like

Yep, I’ve heard quite a few stories of clergy who have fallen foul of the subjective and vindictive decision making of the Johnson Fund. They all know that they have to keep the trustees sweet and happy if they want to benefit. I do wonder, given that it will come under charity status, if there should be some more rigorous oversight of it, so that subjectivity isn’t such a big matter. Surely there should be objective criteria and aims for a body controlling and handing over money like this. Remember, the money comes from the JF collections that are held each year, so they much be under the charity rules and law. Perhaps someone should ask some awkward questions ? + Pat ?

Don’t forget Wilcox and Nichols are besties. Cocoa de Bournville (Maurice) fell out with Wilcox big style and sent him to the furthest place from Brum – Redditch to Henley-on-Thames. A friend of Fr Michael Doyle, Paraclete, Stroud, taken in by Nichols to Birmingham and Westminster. Scratch my back, mafia etc

Read that book ‘best Catholics in the world’ re Brady. He’s a careerist as brendan boland wouldn’t call him as a ‘wounded healer’. That was what I call it as oppression, clamping down any info at all costs to preserve their institutional reputation.

‘Our Church is a place of serious crimes,’ France’s leading prelate says, as bishops adopt reforms
November 10, 2021

” In his closing address at the French bishops’ meeting in Lourdes, Archbishop Eric de Moulins-Beaufort, the president of the episcopal conference, said that “our Church is a place of serious crimes, of frightening attacks on the lives and integrity of children and adults.”
“We must recognize and confess it: we have allowed an ecclesial system to develop which—far from bearing life and opening up to spiritual liberty—damages, crushes, tramples on human beings and their most basic rights,” he added.”

Institutionally and in Episcopal terms… it is indeed nearly extinct, that the gods…. but the core of the Gospels is still to be found in Irish people; a kind, gentle and generous people ( let down by leadership of all kinds for centuries). So long as there are people on the streets without shelter and warmth…… so long as the appalling needs of whole cohorts in Irish society are trampled and ignored…Margaret Mead ( or whoever) or the Nazarene need to be heard ; ordinary Irish men, women and children still care… it’s the leaders who do not hear them or want to…..I didn’t hear him the other day but Dermot Farrell can light a flame to warm if like one of his predecessors I cited in relation to him on this blog; he quietly hits the streets in the darkness or the day ( with a helper/ minder or two) and helps those who have nothing, NOTHING, and breathes life into what this blog says he refers to in terms of extinction. I actually think it could be in the man !! Walsh.

I have always spoken up for Pat Buckley( I do not like his episcopal habit of sundering priests.. but that’s what bishops do ( power)) . My first appointment for a summer was to St. Paul’s on the Falls road. In those six weeks I met quite a few people from the Divis flats… married a few ( in the marriage documents were several death documents concerning the death of former spouses). Those people told me inspiring stories of one Father Buckley who helped greatly when no one else would ( and Sine Fein also was spoken of as a group who helped the forgotten) . It was the summer of two commemorations ; the arrival of the British troops( who used to prop their weapons against the wall of St. Paul’s and go to Mass with their Catholic girlfriends)…. and Internment . Pat Buckley in terms of care and kindness to people in need always has had a sense of Gospel urgency… not common to bishops in the Anglo/ Saxon/ Celtic world. They are usually all words about the poor but do absolutely nothing…. as recently a Minister wrote a letter about the appalling home problem and a Prelate made a reply… as Greta T. would put it about Climate Change; blah…..blah …… blah. I’d love to know how much a Roman Catholic Bishop in Ireland gives to their own Trocaire( big business of course) from their own pockets( I wouldn’t really). Yes , Pat Buckley has always quietly helped those who have needed… and been available to do so. That cannot be taken from him by any Cathal Daly or his ilk.
