IS ARMAGH STILL FINANCIALLY SUPPORTING RORY AS HE EARNS £ 100 AN HOUR IN LONDON?

My understanding was that Amy was paying the Servites in Fulham to house Rory abd allow hum to complete a doctorate.

That doctorate was a DOCTOR OF MINISTRY.

Does that doctorate qualify you as a psychotherapist?

Did the Servites in Fulham know anything about Rory having this therapy practice and website?

Did Rory see clients at the Servite Priory?

Did Rory remove the sight when the Servites found out?

Did the Servities notify Eamon Martin?

And in the meantime Rory is listed as an Armagh priest and is being supported by Armagh collections

I have never heard of a psychotherapist also working as a personal trainer.

I have never seen a psychotherapist place a picture of himself on his website wearing a sweat shirt.

We know before that Rory crossed professional boundaries by showing a former school pupil naked pictures of himself.

I am confused, to say the least !

AND

What is Eamon Martin doing or thinking?

He shouldn’t use a non-medical doctorate when presenting himself as a psychotherapist. Are his consulting rooms in the Servite Prior? Imagine if you were a client with issues arising from religion and you turned up for your first appointment, only to find that it’s a religious house. He should also make clear he is a priest, if he is still in ministry.

Sounds to me that Roreeee is two timing ! Taking what he can from Armagh and earning on the side. I doubt if the Armagh people know about this, judging by the speed with which he took down his site / advertisement as soon as he was rumbled. In addition, if he is offering this kind of professional service, for it to have any professional credibility, he will have needed to attain accreditation from one of the psychotherapy / counsellling professional bodies. Has he done that ? And, what would they think about his past (un)professional behaviour and his sending pictures of his dick to someone with whom he had a professional relationship, an ex-pupil of a school where he was chaplain ? I think they would take the view that this man does not understand professional boundaries. Or am I being unduly harsh ?!!!

This is an incredible story. Either Rory is qualified or he isn’t. I don’t think you can advertise your services in so professional a manner unless you are an accredited professional psychotherapist. His CV is very impressive. There are many “chancers” in the counselling industry. We have to be careful who we choose as a therapist/counsellor. If Rory is pursuing this area of work and benefiting financially and is listed as a priest, presumably receiving an income, his Bishop must make a very urgent decision. Rory cannot be trusted.

In the BACP directory, he is listed as being in the SW10 postcode, which is where the Servite Priory is. He has an unfair commercial advantage over other local therapists who don’t have free business premises, and he could also put the charitable status of the Servite Priory and its council tax exemptions at risk, as well as causing insurance problems for them, by running a business from the premises. Does clerical entitlement for MIAs ever cease?
He obviously uses the Irish version of his name so that clients won’t uncover his past if they googled Rory Coyle. More dishonesty.

The tube stations and bus routes he lists indicate that his practice is run from the Servite Priory and his consulting rooms are there. Hope he’s paying business rates to the council.

Some people might think that having been a priest is pertinent eg those who have religious upbringing issues or had been abused. I remember some evangelical Protestant/loyalist friends of mine who’d had therapy in the Aisling Centre in Enniskillen (owned by the Sisters of Mercy, though ownership is well hidden) and they were raging when they learned subsequently that they had been counselled by a nun. It had never been stated. They may have been bigoted in objecting, but it should have been made clear.

Rory feels entitled to a £100 an hour income, while living rent-free in Fulham and attracting well-off clients in the locality. Competitors probably cannot afford to have “consulting rooms” in that area. Is it a bit disingenuous of him to use his doctor title in this context (as if it is a medical/therapeutic qualification) and is mentioning proximity to the hospital trying to create a subliminal link to it?

I’m a mental health professional and will say right now that it would take YEARS of study and practice to be qualified and competent to independently practice CBT, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy and integrative therapy. I have never heard of a therapist claiming to take someone through the twelve steps like that, which seems a blatant misunderstanding of how the twelve step program works.
And – a doctorate in ministry doesn’t qualify you to do any of that.
If you’re ever looking for therapy look at what professional bodies they belong to, such as BACP, and then look at what guarantee membership of the professional body gives you. Notice he’s not claiming to belong to a professional body, and most likely doesn’t.
He’s also not bothered to proofread the site and it’s all a bit slapdash and unprofessional.
There’s nothing wrong with a former priest training in therapy but guys, do it properly.

Very good points, 1:20am. I’ve never heard of a therapist taking a person through the 12 Steps. Also, as you say, I don’t know how he was qualified in all these things. He was a curate, then a support worker in the Irish Centre in London, did a D.Min, but where was all the therapy traing done, and when. I hate the fact that it seems like anyone can call themselves a therapist. It should be a job title protected in law, like “nurse”, so that only those truly qualified can call themselves it and have paying clients. This stuff is too important.

It is the business of taxpayers that the Armagh Diocesan Trust has charitable status and as such pays no tax. It does so in persuit of its stated charitable ends, ie “the advancement of religion”, which is one of the handful of grounds on which a charity can be set up. Using charitable funds to house and re-educate Rory Coyle is not in line with that purpose.
It is also of interest that vulnerable people are constantly asked to contribute to Armagh coffers and then they are used to fund Rory’s London lifestyle.

So delighted to read this. Rory was treated dreadfully by that article in the Irish news. He now has a future outside the priesthood if he desires it. This is exactly how he should have been using this time as I am sure all priests do when on ‘time out’. No doubt this blog will turn this into a negative. The adult who decided to go to the Irish news with the images in the first place did Rory a favour in the end. I doubt he’d ever have these qualifications and options had it not of happened.

Hi Pat,
first of all, on a basic level this is highly misleading advertising. The majority of potential customers will think Rory’s Phd will be in psychology or psychiatry. He simply should not be using his Phd, a theology Phd, in this context for advertising services in therapy. it is dishonest.
Secondly in Ireland (and Britain too I daresay) there arent strict qualifications as to who can offer therapy and it is unfortunately not yet fully licensed and controlled. AFAIK in Ireland (I know someone who did it) it’s a 2-4 year part time masters course with Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP). There are other providers. Its a massive pile of spoof and bullshit designed to extract as much cash as possible. While I know it works for some people a lot of it is quackery.
Anyone sending unsolicited nude photos to people should never be employed in a care setting of any description, full stop.
Is Rory sending his fee money back to Armagh? Or is he still being supported by the Sheep?

Like

Todd, you are 100% correct about the misleading use of Dr.

Most people will assume he is a medical doctor ie a psychiatrist, or it is in psychology or psychotherapy. They would never suspect that it was a theological doctorate. Also, he says that the doctorate is about transition. Is it unreasonable to speculate that a client might assume that it is a study of personal transition by individuals in the sense of change through therapy? I’d be surprised if the D.Min was about that.

Liked by 1 person

I stand corrected. According to this he is qualified as a therapist:
https://righttherapist.com/dir/onlineuk-listings/rory-mac-giolla-chomhaill/
However, he has no PhD in any sort of science and shouldn’t be using it in advertising. It is false, misleading and designed to con people who don’t check things up properly – and which as we know from stupid scams there are many people like this.
There is some putative attempt on the BACP website as to show how one becomes a therapist. But it is not explicitly clear what qualifications one must have – it could be as little as two-year part-time diploma. To get on these diplomas, much like MBAs (another absolute con – you can thank whizz-kid MBAs for causing both Boeing 737 MAX crashes) you would need to have a primary degree in something. As these are entirely private, cash-cow courses the acceptance rate would be very high and the degree required could be any load of shite, including theology.
Rory’s spiel also indicates he is a supervising therapist, which means he has been at this a lot -he may ostensibly have been doing further theological studies while doing this on the side for a very long time indeed.
The big danger with unhinged or unreliable therapists is literally death. I am aware of one therapy student working for Pieta voluntarily who may well have very definitely not assisted a customer who subsequently committed suicide.
To be fair to Rory perhaps he had his crazy younger years and has now settled down and makes a positive contribution to people’s lives. People are certainly capable of change and we should be mindful of that. If he has come around, fair play to him and good luck. Whether or not Armagh are happy to keep him on the payroll is another story though.

Going back to yesterday, I’m surprised that the assertion that Peter Smith availed himself of male prostitutes when he was archbishop of Cardiff has not be taken up more. It’s a serious allegation, asserted on the back of the new bishop of EA Collins being associated with Smith when he was in Cardiff as a senior priest, and an assumption that he probably knew what Smith was doing, but turned a blind eye or just kept stum. There are shades of Conry in A&B and his antics with several women which in all likelihood were known about by CMOC and his magic circle but conveniently ignored in order for them to protect their protege and continue their agenda. If true, both these characterisations are indicative of an arrogance on the part of those with influence and power, assuming that the plebs will not find out and should not find out because this stuff is way beyond their pay grade. That arrogance and attitude pisses me off more than Smith buggering male prostitutes or Conry banging women.

You can’t have it both ways. When Fr Sheehy said that some acts were sinful he was rebuked by the bishop for being unChristian. If we are in a Church where anything goes and nothing’s a sin (apart from hurty words), you can hardly expect the late Archbishop Smith to have been criticised by his brother priests. Sin is so pre-Vatican II.

Also is it right that gay men get married to the opposite sex and pretend that they are straight for want of a better word.

We need to understand what is genuine love and how it manifests through the teachings of the new testament. The old ways kept women down and hid a lot. The ordinary people like the latin mass music but do not understand the latin and its meaning in everyday life. Oh dear, I think Rory has bitten off a bit too much here: Putting himself forward as a counsellor / psychotherapist without really good qualifications or professional accreditations. Using Servite / church premises to pursue his work. Presuming that a Doc Min from the University of Wales (!!) will cut the mustard. And two timing + Amy of Armagh. He needs to be laicised immediately, put a respectable distance between himself and the Church / priesthood, disappear quietly for a good number of years, and go work on something completely outside and away from pastoral / caring professions where professional boundaries count. Somebody suggested a building site. Sounds like a good idea ! Or maybe open an ice cream shop on the sea front like one of his companions has done. I know it sounds a bit harsh, but why do these MIAs think that they can carry on trading on their past tail coats for ever ? They need to do the decent thing and make a clean break. And give us all a break ! What pisses me off is not so much what are their predilections and the mistakes of the past they have made, but the assumption that we are all going to be fooled and they can carry on pretty much as before, using our money to continue their lifestyle. If they have any integrity, having been rumbled, they need to move on and out. Then I could have time for them. But until that happens, I think + Pat is doing us a great favour by keeping the spotlight on them.

Like

‘why do these MIAs think that they can carry on trading on their past tail coats for ever ?’
Because of the way ministry attracts the inadequate, mentally ill, and psychopathic. They are unable to live without the sense of purpose and worth that ministry gives them. This is exactly the same problem in the caring professions, that some people have a feeling of emptiness inside them and are seeking to sort that or any other problems.

§2. Clerics are to avoid those things which, although not unbecoming, are nevertheless foreign to the clerical state.
§3. Clerics are forbidden to assume public offices which entail a participation in the exercise of civil power.
§4. Without the permission of their ordinary, they are not to take on the management of goods belonging to lay persons or secular offices which entail an obligation of rendering accounts. What is so special about the likes of Rory and other MIAs ? I mean, in any other walk of life, their current inactivity and / or transgressions that have got them in to trouble, would be sufficient for them to be let go / cut loose / shown the door / sacked / moved on, with no continuing ties and obligations. What is it about the Catholic priesthood that presumes that, no matter what happens or what you do, it is well night impossible for that to happen ? Only until recently did priests who do prison time for things like child abuse become laicised, and even then there is quiet ongoing support and embrace for them when they come out of prison from the Church. It happens nowhere else. I guess it has to do with the presumed ontological sacramental change that has been undergone by the priest, and the sense of priesthood fraternity ! Well, it happens nowhere else, so it should not be happening to the likes of Rory. The Servites should show him the door, Armagh needs to stop supporting him financially, he should cease to be listed as a cleric, his priest mates should encourage him to make new friends and move in new circles, and he should get himself a proper life. Maybe the counselling / psychotherapy thing is an attempt in that direction, but it does seem to be based on flimsy and questionable foundations, and to be somewhat undercover. Which is the kind of thing we have come to expect of clergy, trying to do things on the QT, undercover, without putting in the really hard work. Cut the ties, Rory, get a proper job, and stand on your own two feet ! And that goes for the rest of the MIAs, c/o etc who are there because of their own failings, inadequacies, sins, crimes and plain uselessness.

No housing or cost of living crisis for the boul Rory.
Then he goes on a doctoral course, paid for by the sheep, in theology, ostensibly for use on his return to active ministry. Meanwhile, while in the free accommodation he trains himself up for a new, alternative career. No intention of returning to the diocese, but still staying on the payroll, availing of the free accommodation and returning the favour by setting up a £100ph business behind the backs of the Servites. Living rent-free in London, getting a stipend, salary, his doctorate paidfor and getting private fees for offering therapy, he can spin that out as long as possible, fill his bank account and then say to Amy and the sheep, “Cheerio, thanks for everything and don’t mention the flashing”.

“Church, civil society and governments need to put children first and help them win justice. It is vital that the Catholic Church, non-government organizations (NGOs), development agencies, and government put children at the heart of national and religious concerns. The Church and clergy must remember and act constantly on the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth when he made children the center of importance in the kingdom. “Whoever welcomes in my name one such child as this, welcomes me,” he said. Gene Kerrigan in Irish Sunday Independent reports that in 2009 when Irish police on patrol found a six foot four man leaning over a drunk semi conscious woman naked from the waist down behind a Listowel pub, he stated “she asked me to ride her”. CCTV confirmed that the man had carried the woman to where the police found him leaning over her. Fr Sean Sheehy volunteered as a character witness for his rapist friend in court.

@7.10 Typical, when priests are not raping vulnerable children & adults, they are busy lying to police & courts on behalf of their friends. Dirty messengers.

Two points:
1. It’s unlikely you are concerned about the victims of the crime of CSA. If you were, you would pursue the 96% of abusers who are not clerics or religious and over 70% of whom are family members: brothers, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins etc.
2. If you were concerned you would put your name to your calumny.
3. If you made a similar generalisation about the ministers of another religion you’d be indicted for hate crimes.

7.10 it speaks volumes that the bigoted and outspoken Fr Sean Sheehy would choose to be a character witness in court for a dangerous rapist & then use the church pulpit to spout hate speech against gay people.

Nothing more dangerous than a therapist who is not a therapist. Can’t even spell creating….. And his sentence construction is all over the place.

7.38: A most unfair comment. You know it to be a lie. Speak with facts not your bigotry and hate speech. The vast vast majority of priests are good people, not perfect but reasonably well committed to ministry. You know that too but you choose to denigrate all.

You frequently employ this quotation and always out of context. To apply this dictum one needs more than a good intention. It’s necessary that what one expounds is actually the Gospel.

Bet poor ole Dom Benedict Andersen isn’t being treated to free personal & employment accommodation & still no letter of good standing. RCC treat their abusive clergy far more favourably than their clerical whistleblowers. Nice Christian people, not. Don’t practice what they preach as usual.
